Greetings all!

Since deciding that it's time to upgrade my monitor (deciding meaning my tv/monitor crapped out on me) I've read countless amounts of threads regarding ccfl's, LED's, IPS', 120hrz and so on and the more I read and research the harder it seems to make the right choice...

For a while I was high on the idea of getting a lower $ ranged IPS, because color accuracy does mean a lot to me, even though I'd be getting this monitor mainly for gaming. But soon enough I read all kinds of negative comments about the lower priced IPS' such as the U2311H, U2211H (IPS glow, really bad backlight bleeding) the usual answer to these remarks are: "cheaper IPS' are known to have such issues" or "They are hit and miss. I had to return mine twice before I settled on one that wasn't so bad"

That doesn't sound too encouraging... and I don't have the $$$ to shell out for IPS above those mentioned.

I mean... I'm coming from using a 4 year old HDTV as a monitor which could only be used at 1360x768 res and had some noticeable ghosting. So upgrading to a TN would probably rock my world (nevermind an IPS) but I would at the very least like to invest in a TN that has decent to good color accuracy and contrast.

Rather than bore you all with a detailed story about the last few weeks spent scouring the net for info I'll just ask you all a few questions that have been addling my mind:

LED monitors:
-Do they or don't they play any part in delivering better colors than ccfls?
-Do they suffer from backlight bleeding more than their counter-part ccfl monitors?

120hrz:
-I've read a few comments eluding to these monitors having more input lag when used at 120hrz than some other 60hz monitors (Not exactly sure why)
-How about using them simply for 2d gaming... worth the extra cost?

IPS:
(See above)

If anyone has a suggestion for a TN monitor for gaming that has great colors and blacks (for TN's of course) that I can spend the next week researching I'd be very grateful =)

Apologies for all the questions... I think I'm suffering from information overload after spending hours upon hours reading about things I knew next to nothing about a month ago ;)

LED = No advantage. There is local dimming, but there is no monitor with that yet.

Backlight bleeding is different on LED compared to CCFL, in shape, not quantity. Seems to be fairly common along the sides rather than top and bottom as it is with CCFL.

Amount of back lightbleeding is all up to panel lottery really, never really know what you're gonna get. One of my TN's i used forever, has an extreme example of backlight bleeding, but i lived with it because it was a fast TN for its time, and for games it didn't matter enough. It had about 2 inches from the top of noticeable back light bleeding in dark scenes etc.

The 120hz input lag is in reference to 120hz TV's. They can claim 120hz because they have a separate processing technology that put in "guessed" frames between real frames, allowing a super "too smooth" look. But the TV has to buffer all the scenes to do this, causing massive input lag, jerky motion etc.

120hz monitors are different, they only come in the TN variety, they are very fast, have TRUE 120hz input, and except for a CRT they are the most suggested monitor for FPS gaming. If your primary gaming is FPS, its worth the extra cost.

I will being using a 120hz primarily for 2d gaming. The extra amount of perceived motion, and lagless smoothing is well worth it, for FPS games.
I currently use a 2011 Panasonic plasma for gaming.
