no raid, slow boot up

Well i have one hardrive, western digital 250gb 16mb cache 7200rpm sata hardrive and not set in any raid just plugged in and detected.

I have a 4600+ x2 64 bit processor. And the boot times are slow i have to wait 10 blue bars on windows start up.

I was wondering if this is just normal?

I plan on getting another 250 gb hard drive and will mirror it and not set it at raid 0, i had a bad experience with 2 34gb raptors that completely killed themselves and i lost alot of family photos.

Will i see a little better difference setting them in raid mirroring?
 
as said many of times, raid =! backup

now with that said, search google for a program called Bootvis. it will tell you what part of the boot is slowing you down.

i have a raptor 150 on my asus a8n5x (bios 602?) and i sometimes have slow boot ups, i have no idea why that happens on occation.
 
You'll get almost same performance with raid1 as with single drive. If one drive fails, data remains intact. Raid1 array recovery ease and/or success varies with controller & software type.
