After building the PC cooling system with the parts that I was recommended here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1190070 the machine doesn't post. Doesn't do shit. Powers on, board light comes on, can hear the drives juicing up, and thats it.

Tried disconnecting both 8800s + RAM. Without the ram and the 8800s there's no error beeps, it just sits there. Tried using the bios reset jumper. Nothing.

Have a random diagnostics card that sits in the PCI slot in between the 8800s. Doesn't do shit except indicate that it has power. No hex codes, no numbers, fucking nothing.

If you don't want to follow that above link its a P5N32-E SLI board with two 8800GTSs and an e6600. Right now one loop has the CPU-Northbridge-Southbridge, other has the 8800s.

Any suggestions? Pics will come soon, but after about 3 hours with this thing I don't know what else to do other than ask you guys.

If the diagnostic card isn't showing anything, the board is probably dead somehow...

Please upload pics ASAP.

Check your CPU pins on the motherboard.
This happened to me on my DS3.

Test your PSU on another motherboard, or do the jumper trick with a paper clip. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG FROM YOUR COMPONENTS FIRST.

Isolate the components step by step.

It's either the mobo or the PSU.

As others have stated, check your PSU with just your hard drives. Attach a few hard drives and use a paper clip to short the green and black pins (they're adjacent to one another). This will power up your PSU. If you hear your harddrives spin up, it's not your PSU.

Next, strip down to 1 stick of ram and reseat your CPU to make sure its solidly in place. Don't mount your WC block. You can power your CPU up for 30 secs without worrying about temps/cooling. Attach PSU with ATx cable and try to start her up. If it doesn't work, most likely it's a dead mobo.

also, the first WC I did, I got the CPU waterblock on too tight and it bowed the Mainboard and killed it,

Reseated the CPU and tried it. No dice. I can hear the HDDs powering up when I plug in just the drives. Went to one stick of RAM. No dice. Removed every last component besides the CPU and nothing. I'm going with a dead mobo at this point. Fuck.

Anyone have experience with this particular mobo? This happened once before with this mobo, with this customer. He replaced the north/southbridge coolers and the thing didn't post anymore, at that point we went with the idea that he didn't apply them right and crushed or fried the northbridge, but at least then the diagnostics card did something. Right now, like I said before, it just sits there idle, not displaying shit. Usually this only happens with a dead CPU.

:(

I've crushed 2 EVGA 680i's in the past month alone due to overtightening the chipset blocks. It happens...

Ranker, are those boards RMA-able after that happens? Or does the word screwed come to mind?

That's what I was wondering... I lost an A8N-SLI to NB crush ...

And with eVGA, if it even resembles a motherboard when you ship it back, it's fine.

Screwed, blued and tattooed. They'll get the board, look it over, note the damage to the chipset and send it back.

Do ya think they would take exception to my method of tapping holes in circuit boards? ;)

I've NEVER had an RMA denied by Evga and I've sent back some fucked up shit before. I've had a few trials with LN2 and lets just say I did some jacked up stuff to it.

If it's still in one piece and looks like a motherboard in some respect, they'll take it back. That's why EVGA gets all of my money from here on out. They're quite tolerant to the hardcore enthusiasts and know that sometimes we do some jacked up stuff to our gear =)

Kind of unethical though, huh? You damage the product through your purposeful misuse and expect the manufacturer to pony up for YOUR damage. That's why the stuff costs so much moula...

I called tech support myself and they know me on a first name basis. I've spent over $4,000 on EVGA products in the past 3 months and I'm assuming they'd rather keep my business. I asked even before I submitted my RMA and was approved over the phone without any reservations. They know we mod our boards and they fully support it. There's a reason why they endorse user end mods and still grant your warranty even if you remove stock coolers. They know we'll WC it. They've even created a small SB chipset fan for those of us going the WC route on our northbridge and sell it through their site. To my current knowledge, EVGA is the only company honoring warranties for their video cards if you remove the stock cooling solution.

They're the best retailer for Nvidia based products for all of those reason.

That's actually eVGA's unofficial policy...

Since I basically need a new mobo, what would you suggest out of what EVGA has? Need something that does SLI and has a decent amount of room on it for the NB/SB blocks. Any suggestions?

Evga 680i A1 revision.

It's my favorite out of the 680i boards. I had a Striker but could not deal with all the problems that plagued it. Only thing I don't like about the EVGA board is that it won't fit aftermarket mosfet blocks. Not that there's any importance to WC'ing mosfets, but I'd still like the option to.

Other than that it's been solid and the ease of RMA's with crosship options have me sold on EVGA mobos and videocards.

EVGA FTW ! EVGA FTW !

It's sort of like those lappy warranties... you spill coffee all over the keyboard, return it saying you are not satisfied with the product. Is it dishonest? For conscience preservation purposes, I never ask myself that question.

However, I believe I might be responsible for my 680i's death as well when bleeding my loop yesterday. I was putting it upside down, and I fear the roller coaster ride might have broken something.

I learned mobos are very sensitive bitches. It REALLY doesn't need a lot not to work anymore, whereas you could drive over a 8800GTX on a 18 wheeler and it would still work.
Besides, Arcy jinxed me somehow. :D

Yeah but the OP has an ASUS board and I was answering him on his board. No clue as to what eVGA would do since I've never dealt with them. Sorry that I should have clarified that.

I got the same double dash post code. I tried booting without any rams in and it didnt even beep, so it was definitely a a kaput board.

I think it was the jinx. ;)

I've done some horrible things to mobos(on accident of course) and nothing went wrong wit them. The terrible bends they sometimes endure when mounting heatsinks and what not amazes me.

However I try to be as careful with them as possible.

Yes! Video cards can be thrown down a hill and they will still work lol.

A short time ago i screwed a back plate on too hard on my 680i (Original revision) and destroyed a chip under the backplate and they took the rma and sent me a new board. If they make more mobos in the future, i will seriously consider their mobos.

Yes, eVGA has incredible RMA policies. Too bad they are only a Nvidia house otherwise they would get some of my cash.

To the OP, you killed the board for sure so you need to decide what board to replace it with.

Probably going to go with an A1 like ranker suggested, I don't want to get fucked in the future if this happens again.

On a side note, the guy I'm building this for was a very good bit upset. I don't think he understands that I've already put a good 40 hours into and will continue to work on it. He just gets all pissed about how long its taking.

Not going to miss this god damned machine when he takes it back.

I fuckin wish there was an ATI company like that (pardon my language) but that makes me jealous and mad at the same time

i hope ati gets some good partnerships going

I meant to quote Vlad_13

to the OP did you make sure you plugged in all the power connectors to the mobo? including the CPU power? just a simple mistake easily overlooked

Tried that mate. The board is by all means fucked. Bad time for it too, right on the start of a long weekend.
