No performance boost after overclocking?????

I just don't get it. I have a P4 2.6B overclocked to 3.2 right now. I can get it to 3.4 stable but I don't get any performance increase over 3.2 in the benchmarks that I'm running; 3dmark, aquamark, UT2003, Sandra, etc....

This does not make any sense to me.....

Am I just crazy????

because P4's ramp in clock verywell but not in performance.. also, making your ram run faster gives you bigger gains.. like my 2.4b @ 3.2b isn't super fast because of the rate of execution went up, its because the memory b/w skyrockets which is what the p4 loves.. high fsb and tons of memory b/w..

so try running different ratios on your memory... try 1:1 if you think the ram can do it..

i would think you would see a boost in Sisoft sandra at least, but for the others, your gonna need to lower IQ (640x480, 16bit color) as low as it goes so that the vid card is removed as far as possible from the equation, then you should see more of a diff

Is is possible that the processor or motherboard has some feature that throttles down something to prevent damage maybe????

My temps are pretty good. 50C under full load

You are right. The P4 has built in throttling if the tempurature get high. Which is also why u dont see any performance gain after 3.2. Running faster makes it produce more heat makes it throttle more.

Try putting an extra or better fan over the CPU or upgrading the heatsink all together and see if you get that extra performance back.

I just received my brand new Zalman 7000A so maybe that will help me out.......

At some point your video card will hold you back in 3D Mark and games. Processors can only do so much of the work.

Not true, P4's throttle when they get up to ~70c, and unless there's some crazy "feature" that ramps down performance when temps get high that i haven't heard of, it shouldn't lose performance just cause of temps. Otherwise, you'd have stock chips performing differently at different temps...
