No one warned me...

...that folding is additive.

I had folded a bit from time to time using the (didn't know at the time) wimpy default client. I even made myself part of team 33 because I enjoy HardOCP every day and thought I'd support 'em. In August, when the latest boxen contest came down the pipe, I made sure I was folding every day.

Then the addiction hit.

I started folding on my work PC (my home machine is gaming too much to be effective). Yesterday I started playing with running a GPU client in addition to the SMP client. Today I installed the console client on 2 other boxes at work that were basically sitting there (I'm the System/Net Admin where I work). Now I'm thinking about other machines I can borg.

Someone should've warned me that folding for team 33 was this addictive!

Make sure before you go borging boxes at work, that you have written permission. There was a big thing a few years back about an school IT guy borging the school pc's and getting fired/arrested/etc for it.

but welcome, currently our top scientist are working on a creme that cures the addiction. Sadly their attempts have only made the addiction worse.. :)

No one's supposed to warn anyone; if they did, they would be kicked out of the clubhouse and their [H]orde card would be revoked for life. If people were warned, they'd never join. So we play quiet. :D

Welcome to the team and addiction though. There is no cure, we are all screwed for life. But, better to be screwed by the folding bug than something worse. :D

I work at a small/medium company, and I'm the guy they'd ask about whether or not it was OK to fold. Still, I won't fold on production machines or mission critical hardware. I may be addicted, but I'm not irrational yet. :)

meh who needs a tub.. just put a shower head in the wall.. a drain on the floor.. problem solved while still being able to afford the 875k, lol..

no one warned you but now that you are here, welcome to the addiction

I love it when a plan comes together! We got ourselves another one!

Fold On!

This is an insanity to some degree. Watch out for signs of visiting web sites speccing new boxen to add to or replace existing gear to get more oomph. It will happen.

Also, don't look for any Folding Anonymous group. Oh they may exist but I don't think anybody has been to a meeting. They're too busy keeping their folding farms in tip top shape.

We meet Tuesdays.

But your rite, attendance has been down with all the L5640's.....

I'm fine with that :D

Welcome!!!

Yes it IS addicting as many have already indicated. it is for a good cause and that is what matters :D

Thanks for the warm welcome and well-wishes. I'm slowly ramping up on the meager hardware I have available to me, figuring out the best configuration for maximum points given what I have to work with. I have other hardware I want to bring online, but that may take a while. My wife is a stay-at-home Mom whose source of income unexpectedly dried up, so we've been scraping along on only my income for the past 14 months. It's a really rough time now, but I like the idea of doing something for a good cause, as well as support HardOCP. I've got some ideas for what I can do with some stuff I have laying around.

This past weekend I went for a trip through the threads in the DC forums here, and I came away really impressed. Impressed by the community here, their dedication and drive, and their appreciation for everyone who contributes, even those of us who can't contribute the big numbers. Furthermore, I find the situation with the EVGA team - basically bought and paid for by people with deep pockets - kinda disturbing.

Again, thanks. Go [H]orde!
