No More Problems Fitting PSU in a X-Qpack

No fan does not equal one fan. Something bothers me about a company that can't get its information right. Though it is a cool concept.

Why would you ever use one for an ATX tower? No sense...All the cabling and connections makes me wonder about its resistance and load capabilities, i'll wait till jonnyguru has a crack at these and see what he has to say.

RTT
The Op was talking about a PSU for the X-Qpack which is NOT an ATX tower.

yea you are right. nobody else is cabable of testing a power supply and opening it up to see the real manufacturer besides johnnyguru. and the fact that he is now an employee of "ultra", known for its most excellent psu's, leaves me even more warm and fuzzy.

Me too.

Sarcasm noted.

Who I work for should only mean that I shouldn't be reviewing any Ultra products... because obviously there's going to be some bias there. It wouldn't/doesn't effect my testing methodology or my impression of how other power supplies work.

If you actually read any of my posts in the PSU forum, even since after I started doing R&D for Ultra, you'd see that I never hesitate to recommend or defend a PSU that's, simply put, good quality and/or a good value. Enermax, PCP&C, Cooler Master, Asus, Sytrin... doesn't matter. Good is good. Suck is suck.

But you're apparently such a good judge of character so I'll just leave that at that. ;) (Please note wink for sarcasm.)

I've got one coming, although it's direct from Seventeam and not MGE re-branded. Even though I'm getting the "500W" unit, it's the exact same thing as MGE's 600W unit. MGE/XG did nothing to this unit but slap a 600W sticker on it and put it in their box:

Note the dual 12V rails rated at 18A/22A? MGE did the same thing with this unit as they did with the Duro 900W. They took a 750W unit and slapped a different label on it (peak rated instead of sustained.)

Not that it makes it a bad unit. Seventeam makes an excellent PSU. They make the Sytrin/Nextherm/Masscool 460W that Newegg sells for $69. Has active PFC and 80% efficiency!

I just get pissed off when I see companies blatently, intentionally over-rate power supplies. Cooler Master eXtreme Power 600W is another example of that (a relabeled Seventeam 500W, FYI.)

There is a true 600W version from Seventeam that sports 18A/28A on the 12V's, but I don't know who sells it here in the states.

Guess we'll have to wait for the MGE/XG 800W fanless unit to see that one on the shelves in the U.S. :D

We truly have to congratulate MGE on their use of a tamper-evident decal so fragile, it was impossible even for expert hands to remove the lid without leaving evidence of tampering.
:p

Anyway, external PSUs defeat the purpose of a SFF.

What JG said about the relabeling is about in line with what the amps are saying. Hard to lie with amps. 18/22A seemed low for a 600w PSU.
