No iPod, No Boot?!

I have an Acer 8200 Core Duo laptop that won't boot up unless my 5g iPod is plugged in. I'm running XP Pro SP2, and it hangs on the Windows loading screen. Any suggestions, short of reinstalling windows?

I'll also point out that it is not set to boot from the iPod, and that it starts up just fine in safe mode. Curiouser and curiouser.

my guess as well. check the boot priority in the BIOS and make sure the HDD with windows on it is first (or second after your dvd drive)

Uh, no. It used to boot up just fine without the iPod. This seems to be a fairly recent problem, but I haven't changed any settings recently.

I mean, this was my first guess too. It is set to boot from the main HD, and it does so for the most part, it just seems to hang and loop on the XP loading screen.

Does the OP have a Mac laptop? No offense but I don't see anything in there that screams "Mac" I would suggest uninstalling the iPod software. Further, use HijackThis to remove "iPodService" and "iTunesHelper" from your startup. If this helps, COMPLETELY reinstall iTunes and the iPod stuff.

I don't think that Acer made Macintoshes, but I guess I could be wrong. Like I said, it has trouble booting into Windows. I'll see what happens if I uninstall iTunes and the iPod software.

I know that if I have my gf's ipod plugged into my PC and I restart it it says "Boot Order Has Changed! Press F1 to continue..."

But If I go into the BIOS and look it's still the same.

See if you have "Boot from other device" in your boot options. Try turning that off.
Turn off "Boot from USB" if you have that too.

That was my lame attempt at humor. I guess nobody else thought I was joking.

Haha. I got the joke, then I second guessed you and thought you were serious.
