Hey guys I am trying out some Asus R9 290x's and have a lot issues so far...

I have a total of 4 cards and anything over 2 gains zero performance anywhere, almost in games or benchmark suffers..... my machine is ideally not a gaming rig but 780's perform 100x better than these..

Also in battlefield 4 I can not even turn mantle on it gets like 2 fps...

also eyefinity with vsync on does nothing it is like I dont even turn it on.. massive tearing everywhere..

system specs

Asus Z9PE-D8 Motherboard
2x E5 2650 v2's
64GB ddr3 Gskill Memory
3 way Eyefinity in portrait
corsair 1200w supply on main
roswill 1300x on video cards alone... have tried multiple power sources does not effect anything

Asus reference R9 290x's 4gb memory x4 cross fire is enabled - have tried 1-2-3-4 cards 1-2 works best anything over that just makes everything worse.

Also have quad 780 ti's even with just 2 way SLI it performs better in anything possible really wanted to use these R9 290x's though any tips this is my first time with AMD video cards.
 
You have a bit of a unique setup as gaming rigs go. Have you contacted Asus to see if they know of any compatibility issues?
 
Not yet no... I do have another rig I am going to try 3 way xfire to see if its the cards or the board etc..
 
Are all the PCI-e slots you are using connected to the same CPU? Or are 2 connected to one CPU and 2 to the other?

If its the 2nd case then you will see slowdown. There should be a diagram in the manual telling you which slots are connected to which CPU, there is in my Supermicro manual.

Seams like you need to use slots 1, 2, 3, 4.

As they are each next to each other with no space you will need either risers or single slot waterblocks.
 
Do all 4 of the cards work and perform fine individually? Maybe you have a bad card, or it could be the PCIE slot cpu allocation thing as mentioned before by Spazturtle

Possibly it's something that could be fixed with drivers. I would guess that it's not the type of thing that would be tested with consumer drivers. Have you filed a bug report with AMD? Of course another option would be 2x 295x2 or nVidia.
 
/thinks of something analogous to buying a yacht after only ever driving a 13' with an outboard.

With that said: lack of research will bite u every time. SLI+Surround/Xfire+Eyefinity while being old mature technologies seem to have awful issues on the software level in windows 8.1.

Have a gut feeling that's not your/your only issue but without much more info and a level of troubleshooting/process of elimination I'm not up to at the moment....yea...

Fwiw I only get 25fps in the rig in my sig in ffxiv. This becomes 150 or so if I disable surround/run one display. (Naturally not willing to due such or why would I have built a 10k setup so I have all but harassed the mods at geforce.com for a driver fix. That was 8+ months ago) So assuming amd concerns itself with fixing software issues with current hardware before pushing out new stuff, try to get with them after confirming quadfire works with 1 display.

In closing. I was only aware of 1 mobo that even supports quadfire (gigabyte ud9 iirc) unless your using a different socket than am3+ which could be part of the problem .

Update bioses. Check gpu utilization etc. All things I pray you can do spending that kind of money on a set up. If not I pity the fool who has to walk you through it all. /not it!
 
Are you using 8.1 out of curiosity? Betting my bucks on that or bottlenecking being the issue. Not knowing your process(es) we can only guess on other things such as jumpers and bios config/catalyst config.
 
Thing about researching if anyone has used quad crossfire even triple with my mobo and cpu's = little to no input
 
I think your BF issue might be because Mantle doesn't support Portrait mode Eyefinity afaik (read that somewhere?)
 
Mantle works AWESOME on just two cards in portrait mode.. anything more than 2 cards the system wigs out...
