no floppy, sata drives?

ok my uncle has a fucking dell so i dont know how to use them and shit....
okay since he had xp for 5months he wants to reinstall windows....
and he has sata drives without a floppy drive....wtf am i going to do?
how am i going to make xp see the sata drives? :confused:
 
although i haven't dealt with any of that, doesn't dell (the newer ones) have a private "restore" partition? I know that's how it was with my friend's HP, and it seems to be more common. another thought is, doesnt this dell have restore discs that mirror back the original installation to the drive, effectively bypassing the need for a straight up xp install or need for floppy for sata? my 2 thoughts...

I remember there was a linkage at [H] frontpage to an article where they were showing how to make an OS installation CD with all drivers (including SATA) included..

I wish. I put my drivers on a cd before and all it would take is a floppy. :mad:
 
You may not even need a floppy disk if your SATA ports are integrated into the ICH5/6 on the Intel motherboard.

This would be similar to how the SATA ports on my Epox Nforce 3 motherboard don't need a driver disk as they're supported natively by the nvidia chipset.

Otherwise hook up a floppy drive temporarily to do the install... IF the motherboard doesn't have a floppy connector, there's a very good chance the SATA is supported natively and doesn't require a driver disk.

This is a bitch to do, I've tried countless hours on it. Still no go and I did exactly as the instructions says. it is possible but i still can't figure it out.

I've tried that, it doesnt work. I just got a USB floppy drive and I'm happy now
