i was playing a game, and my display went blank. upon trying to restart, i had no video. i have since torn the rig down, rebuilt it step by step out of the case, using only psu, mb, one ram stick, one hd, and panel switches.

abit nf7-s2g mb
powercolor radeon 9600 128mb vid card
128 mb kingston ram
450watt raidmax psu
160gb seagate hd

i am getting the first beep like the mb is trying to enter bios, but i can't get into see it. i have cleared cmos, removed battery, tried another hd, tried pci vid card, etc.

PLEASE HELP!

raidmax doesnt make the best psus, got another to test with? since youve ruled out video card, try turning it on without ram. if u get a few beeps for a ram beep code, something is working right. if not, youve just narrowed it down to mobo, psu, or cpu. please note that a hdd is not needed for testing. your computer should post without any drives.

are any of the capacitors on the board bulging?

oh, and you didnt mention what cpu you have.

monitor is alive, hooked it to laptop, and got video. the cpu is an athlon xp 3000 i believe barton core.
i am also getting beeps with no ram installed.

at this point, i just hope i can retrieve my info from the hd.

take it all apart, reseat cpu and heatsink. reseat ram. use a pci video card. etc etc. no chance of getting a new psu to test with?

i already tried re-seating cpu and heatsink. i'm guessing it's the psu, but it's only about 5 months old. i am able to get my info off the hd, which was my main concern.

i'll try the psu when i move, as all my pc stuff is already in the new place.

okay, so i went to the in-laws (where i'm moving to for now). and got my old dell, i swapped agp vid cards, and tada...i'm golden.

this tells me a few things...
1. the vid card i tried(pci) is no good,
2. my psu is still good.
3. i don't need a new processor.
4. i DO need a new video card...*curses*

thanks to everyone for the help, as always.

lol... don't you hate it when you're testing with bad parts? :p So, the PCI vidcard could be dead... or the mobo was set to look at AGP only, and not PCI. ;)

the cmos did get cleared, i had to reset my multiplier and all, the pci card is probably bad, but i don't care now. lol.
