no crossfire on crysis 3?

Since crysis 3 is now an "amd powered" game i'd expect it to have a crossfire profile. So far it seems like it's not working though.

Every once in a while they show a spark of life and jump up to "3d" clocks but that never lasts long. Generally they just sit at idle.

I just installed the latest drivers (13.2 beta6 with the latest CAPs) and still nothing.

I read something about renaming the exe to battlefield3 but that seems to be causing other issues?

that seems odd. At what settings are you playing and how much fps are you pulling?

Currently i'm running at:
1680x1050
ultra graphics
no AA
no anisotrophic filtering

and that's playable but only just. Getting 40-ish fps in normal situations but i've seen it drop as far as 12 when there's alot of shit going on.
I have also opened my CCC with the overdrive page open on my second monitor and it shows my second card idling at 300 core and 150mem (the idle desktop clocks).

So any suggestions?

My crossfire performance is less than stellar also. CF 6970's @ 1920x1200 high setting only gets me mid 30's on the rig in sig

I feel you, adding the second gpu doesn't seem like it's doing much. Though I'm getting high utilization on both cards, fps isn't exactly doubling.

Looks to be working as intended

Man that makes me wont to go crossfire. If only my motherboard SATA ports were in a different location -- they are right where the end of the card would be, FAIL Gigabyte on a Xfire ready board!

Seeing that graph it does seem like it's working as intended... I just find it odd that my second gpu is sitting at idle clocks, doing nothing (at least as far as i can tell).

Secondly, is the difference between an "older" 7970 and a GHz edition really so big that it allows for the same performance on a higher res and with 8x MSAA?

i feel like 1 of your cards might not be utilized. I avg about 60 fps with most things maxed (not object detail because of graphical glitches), no AA with a pair of 6970s.

I reckon that from time to time, AMD drivers just internally explode and just don't work anymore.. I've had xfire not work, BSODs or other wierdness with no amount of uninstall/reinstalling fixing the issue.. Reinstalling windows does fix the issue however. Maybe try installing windows on a temporary drive, with new drivers and reinstall crysis 3 and see if that fixes the issue.. I have a funny feeling that'll work correctly.

I was playing Crysis 3 yesterday with 13.1 and it was working both cards, but my fps were not the best because I use 3 monitors so I decided to go for 13.2 beta 6, to see if I could get better fps.
When I started the game I noticed that only one card was working (on afterburner), than I pressed "alt + tab" to check something on my desktop and then when I came back to the game both cards were working.

And the FPS went from 40 to 60 something.

so maybe you could give it a try... start the game... alt+tab and then go back to the game.

Also try the new 13.2 beta 7, it should fix this.... I'm gonna try today later when I get home.

i just installed the 13.2b7 and still no cf utilization. Second gpu is still happily idling, at least it's not using the zero core mode so that's something.

Funny thing is that they do come alive for a split second.
When going back tot he main menu AFTER playing.

I did read that renaming the .exe to some other game could help. Any suggestions?

After alot of searching i thougt i might try something that i, at first, thought was a stupid idea.
I simply closed every and all window that might, in some way, need a gpu to run on 2D clocks (like my mail client, chrome and even the origin window crysis launched from) and that solved it.

Both GPUs fired up fully, both running at 100%.
Performance went from a 35-40 fps to 70-80 fps. So double the performance.

Now i can play crysis 3 on ultra settings with max MSAA and anisotropic filtering :D

well with closing i don't mean i actually kill the process. It just minimizes to the taskbar.
