Okay what would I need to do to be able to run my computer without a case. Can I run it sitting on my desk? I just need to test some things and it wouldn't be a permanent thing just a couple days.

Also do I need to take any special precautions to mount it in a wooden case?

I just set the motherboard on a sheet of printer paper to prevent it from sctatching the desk. Other than that, hook up some fans to help cool the HDDs, and be sure to prop them up so they get airflow under them.

So no need to ground the motherboard or any other component? Or put them up on risers? The desk has an anti-static mat across it so it wont scratch the desk and the matt has plenty of scratches already.

I just set the motherboard on the motherboard box it's been running like that for probably around 4 months now.

The only "precaution" that I can think of is to make sure that you either allow clearance for the metal brackets of video card and PCI cards-you don't want them to pull out while the comp's turned on. Other than that, there's no need to do much of anything. Even setting up fans for HDD's, while a good idea, isn't needed really. Just turn the HDD on it's side and be careful not to knock it over. The less fans the better without a case-nothing to muffle them.

Alright I'm actually building it into a shelf I have but its open on all sides with a fan blowing from the side. I'll probably prop the HDDs up.
