No Bluetooth??

I just bought an Acer Aspire TimelineX 4830T-664 from NewEgg.

The description says it has Bluetooth 3.0+ HS, but after reformatting and installing all drivers, I cannot find Bluetooth hardware in the device list. I cannot see the Bluetooth logo anywhere on the computer, either.

All sellers list Bluetooth for this computer, too. Acer has two sets of Bluetooth drivers available to download as well. But no matter what I do, I cannot find the Bluetooth hardware in this thing.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for all replies in advance!!

I think I have Atheros hardware. It doesn't even take Broadcom drivers - indicate no hardware installed. It does take Atheros drivers, but no hardware listed in Device Manager. I cannot even open "Bluetooth Suite" in Start Menu.

BTW, I reinstalled Win 7 x64 Pro. - means, I wiped the original Win 7 Home Premium installation without even booting the computer with it.

Is there a switch/button to disable it, maybe via a function key?

No .. I don't see anything to control Bluetooth. No switches, no key combinations.

Here is Acer's driver download page. They have drivers posted there.

Try calling up the Windows Mobility Center (under accessories) and seeing if there's an enable/disable toggle in there. If not then call Acer and ask them about it.

Did the factory OS installation detect any Bluetooth hardware? If you don't know, try doing a factory restore. If you still don't have any Bluetooth, then I'd say it's a fair bet the laptop doesn't have the hardware for it.

I didn't boot the computer before wiping the HD. Probably I should have done that.

Yeah. :p

These days, a full format and reinstall isn't really necessary with laptops. It's enough to just manually uninstall the crapware and stick with the stock OS, unless you want to change it to something else.

Well, finally I found that it in fact has Bluetooth. I had to press Fn & F3 buttons (the combination for regular WiFi activation/inactivation) to activate it. It is inactive by default.

When I press the key combination once, it would inactivate the WiFi. When I press it again, it would activate WiFi. When I press it for a third time, it would activate Bluetooth. Yeah... interesting!

This model (4830T-6642, US version) has Atheros Bluetooth.

That's a remarkably shitty enable/disable method. I figured it was something like that. :p

you might also check to see if you can enable it via the BIOS as well, or even change the enable key sequence via the BIOS.

No, nothing in Bios. Actually, I flashed the new version thinking that it would solve the problem - before discovering the tricky key combination.

Wait, but there is more. Now it is working, but every time after starting the computer, I need to activate the Bluetooth by pressing the key combination. Default settign is "OFF". Switching "Component services" (of Bluetooth) to "auto" does not work either.

This is REALLY annoying.

Acer messed up this one big time.:(
