No BIOS beep code

I have an old system that I'm trying to resurrect. I think it's been about 18 months or so since I've powered it on. It's built on an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, socket 939 motherboard and AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU.

I wasn't getting any BIOS output on the monitor and no beep codes through the speaker, so I stripped it down to CPU only. I've probably powered it up 15 times or so and on _one_ occasion got a BIOS beep code of one long, two short beeps, which I believe indicates a memory error. Which makes sense.

The only other observation I have is that the power light displays normally when on, and I have no problem powering it down via the power button on the case.

But why would I usually get no beep codes at all? Could it be the battery?

Yes. Very well can be the battery. If it sat that long unplugged then that dude is probably drained.
