I'm having trouble getting sound after installing the 5770. There is sound, but it's very muffled, a lot of static, comes out of only the front 2 speakers and needs to be turned all the way up to hear it. When I switched back to the 7950, without doing anything else, the audio problems ceased.

Here's what I've tried (in no particular order):
  • reinstalling Audigy drivers
  • reinstalling Radeon drivers
  • uninstalling HDMI audio drivers that came with the Radeon drivers
  • disabling HDMI audio
  • making sure the Audigy is set as main device
  • reseating both the sound card and video card (and checking if the power cable is plugged in all the way on the card)
  • checked to make sure all the AV cables are plugged in correctly (computer and speaker ends)

Any suggestions would be great! I'd like not to resort to using onboard audio, but if I need to then so be it.

A small update:

I haven't had time to do any serious troubleshooting yet, but everything works with onboard audio. I pulled out the Audigy and 7950, put in the 5770, on enabled the onboard audio in the BIOS. When Windows loaded I heard the finished loading chime, so it seems audio is fine with onboard. After reinstalling the video drivers everything seems to be working properly. Unfortunately, it seems like the Audigy doesn't want to play with my new video card.

Hopefully, I can get it all to work together.

I had an X-Fi that I was using with my 5870 and I ended up just taking it out and only using the HDMI-out on the video card.
Anyway, what I noticed was that I couldn't have both the X-Fi and the HDMI-out both enabled at the same time. I always had to disable one or the other in the Windows sound control panel.

Another tip as far as drivers go - avoid the built-in ATI HDMI driver and use the one from Realtek's website instead. The ATI HDMI is from Realtek and if you get the ATI HDMI driver from the Realtek site it has a TON more options including an "always ready" option so there's no digital audio delay. They just posted a brand new driver 2-3 days ago that adds a bundle of new options that end up making the driver as fully functional as anything Creative makes...hence me removing my X-Fi.

I've had the same exact problem. Remove ALL sound\audio drivers from your PC, while you were installing your 5770's drivers you probably installed the HDMI audio drivers too...Remove that too then use CCleaner...Then go to BIOS and disable the OnBoard Audio Device, then re-install your Sound Card's drivers and you should be good. =)
