That's not what the article is talking about. It is talking about the actual AMD reference boards. If they don't release one it will be the first time in five cycles that they haven't

No point. Due to power issues the GTX 690 will likely beat it and we are probably about a quarter away from seeing the 8000 series anyway.

Yes. As they probably aren't huge moneymakers, and are sold in limited numbers, it seems more a PR "we have the fastest card" thing. As it probably wouldn't be faster than a 690 (at least within envelopes and not at annoying volumes), there isn't much buisness point to it. If the 690 wasn't released so early it might have been. Though the 8990 might come out quicker next time.
 
The Powercolor 7990 stacked up very well vs. the GTX 690 in the reviews I read. Power draw was a bit higher, but performance especially at eyefinity resolutions were stellar.
 
Don't think ATI is going to make a 7990 or a dual based 79xx series card, they are better off focusing on their next generation cards at this point.
 
I think read somewhere that they were no longer going to design a reference xx90 cards and the individual manufacturers would have to come up with it themselves.
 
It sure doesn't look like it at this rate which surprises me since they do have the firepro version if I'm not mistaken.

That said I couldn't find any dual gpu firepro on AMD's site. I'm not so sure that they are selling that at the moment either.

No 7990 this generation from AMD. It will be up to their AIB partners to design their own boards to deliver and 2-in-1 card.

Um, last time I checked the 7970s were very cool running cards, allowing most users to gain huge stable o/cs..Also, it consumes ~21 watts more then a 6970 @ load, yet 34 less then a 580, and delivers 40-65% improvement depending on the game/resolution..:confused::confused:

I am under the impression that the 7990 would canabalize their PRO market.
 
Releasing the 7990 so late in the cycle does not make sense for AMD.
The GTX 690 will be the king for a few more months...
