Nintendo 64 Games

A couple that I didn't see mentioned are Blast Corps and Tetrisphere. If you're not into puzzle games then forget Tetrisphere, but Blast Corps was one of Rare's best games.

Tetrisphere was so much fun

Nintendo's will only be free in some cases (i.e. giveaways with Rev game purchases, credit, contests, "free download" days, etc etc) the rest of the time, they will likely charge a few bucks for the old stuff.

For "everything" (incl Goldeneye) to be available, they have to talk to the third parties involved in making those games and arranging for their download to be available. While this can be a problem, I don't forsee it being much of a problem. Why? Because dollars speak. If Rare or Capcom can make $5-10/pop selling their game, minus a (for instance) $1 serving fee per game from Nintendo - companies are simply blinded by dollar signs, and they will likely take every penny they can get. Hell, even Sega is talking to Nintendo about emulating Gensis games. lol

I think you mentioned this during one of our debates. What's your source? I can't see Genesis anything running on a Revolution, especially with the Sega Ages line doing pretty well.

That's the best I could find in a matter of seconds. lol
There was an even more cryptic comment made by Sega of Japan though. It was something along the lines of "I would love to see old Sega games available on their service" (paraphrased) which you could probably find if you looked hard enough.

I'll hold out for a confirmation. I really doubt Nintendo is spending its time coding a Genesis emulator, and I really doubt Sega is too, since they've got the Sega Ages line.

Nintendo has their classic NES and SNES series' as well, which they're making tons of money from (hell Super Mario 1 is the current bestseller in Japan as we speak). They're still making their games available for download. For a price, of course, you can make tons of money from a download service. Hell, look at the direction of XBox live... purchase characters, levels, and upgrades to your game.

I wouldn't put it past Sega to code a genesis emulator (wouldn't be too tough) to be available for download. That said, I certainly won't expect it. It's a long shot, to say the least.

Why would they have to program anything? Do you know how many perfect Genesis emulators there are already? Why wouldn't they just buy the rights to Gens or one of the others?

"I really doubt Nintendo is spending its time coding a Genesis emulator, and I really doubt Sega is too"

This would be a weekend project for like 3 people max, not a big deal, even if they did decide to make their own...

Because emulation is NOT perfect. The idea is to get something running acceptably, oftentimes with hacks. There is no such thing as perfect emulation. It's an inherently imperfect concept. Even the much-lauded ZSNES has a nice long list of flaws, SNES features it doesn't emulate, bugs that interfere with the emulation, and so on. ZSNES is notorious for being a collection of hacks. The developers are slowly working on "true" emulation while removing the hacks, but the fact is ZSNES, generally considered the best example of a console emulator available anywhere, is far from perfect.

Sega isn't going to buy a Genesis emulator because they aren't the ones trying to make older games available for download; they already charge for those via Sega Ages. Nintendo isn't going to buy a Genesis emulator because they're unlikely at best to place priority towards emulating the Genesis and/or Master System for their downloading service.

No, it wouldn't. Every popular console emulator is the result of a multi-year effort by a bunch of contributors and a few highly dedicated people, and yet they're still largely works in progress.

Try this. Learn C++, Assembly, and a few other fundamental programming languages. Make sure two or three of your good friends know these languages as well. Bring them over for a weekend and try to code an NES emulator. Be sure to post your results.

Don't forget about the Bond licence, which RARE gave up long ago. I can see that being a problem, unless EA are cooperative through some miracle.

EA will see dollar signs.

As for emulation... the Zelda: Ocarina bonus disc (from Wind Waker) had an N64 emulator that emulated Zelda. It did emulate it quite perfectly, along with most other Nintendo-made games. Nobody knows the system better than the system maker. X369 is going to emulate (apparently) some X1 games... when people see dollar signs, they do work.

WAYNE GRETZKY's 3D HOCKEY- the best sports game on ANY system EVER

qft

And I'll also add a vote for Mario Party 3. I loved that game, we used to bet money on it.

I cannot stress enough how much you must have SUPER SMASH BROTHERS. My friends and I still play that game to this day. Best game ever!

Don't forget Super Mario 64. lol - groundbreaking 3D stuff there, still a lot of fun (I've been playing the DS update recently - I forgot how good this was)

Indeed they will, I'm just affraid they'll want too many of those dollars for using a game they had nothing to do with.

Also, how hard were the 2nd boss races on Diddy Kong Racing... And the final Wizpig, took me a week.

That wasn't emulation. That was a direct Gamecube port.

Thats what I thought, but the N64 is built into the Gamecube hardware apparently(or so I've read), and it can run a few ROMS with the PSO exploit. You get the Zelda bonus disk loading screen when running these ROMS too.

That's because it's likely emulation. You can run a few roms, mostly the Nintendo-made roms, using the emulator that was built into the Zelda bonus disc and was subsequently ripped out to be used to emulate other N64 games.

Smiffy, you'd better bet that EA would likely charge $10 or $15 for Goldeneye, however I think they do have to pay Rare some kind of royalties for it, since they made it, right?
