Nice program to view TV with my TV card?

I have a hauppage card... and the softeware they supply is crap. I need something better... with a nice user interface... =).

I used what came with my ati card, that was a nice one but now im not using it and i didnt know they had other free tv viewing progs. Im on linux so i have a plethora of choices towards the end of using my tuner card, other than that just do some google searching if all else fails panic

Which card do you have?

I have the Hauppage PVR-250 and I didn't think the default software (WinTV) was all that bad.

Two of the best out there are SageTV and Beyond TV. Both of these apps will work with most Hauppage cards, but check the list and make sure yours is supported

I have one of the... more... lacking pieces of hardware. Ive got the basic WinTVGo... Im assuming the more expensive cards have a higher quality tv playback then the WinTVGo? Mine is decent, but there is room for improvement. Wintv2000 isnt too bad... what is a good software encoder for WinTV2000 to let my card capture in a compressed format (divx, mpeg...)? That might actually make me use WinTV2000 if I could find something that worked well.

I highly recommend SnapStream’s Beyond TV (BTV). I have been using it for a couple years now, at first with a cheap ATI tuner card which was not bad but then I upgraded to an PVR-250 and was very surprised with the quality improvements (plus since the 250 is a hardware encoder card it requires next to no cpu power).
