I've been on the search for a good case and PSU since I have an Athlon (1.4GHz, dunno anything else) and a crappy BIOSTAR board that I had running for awhile, then went on the fritz...before I had much time to trouble shoot, I had a diff machine (more power) running that was folding. I've since lost that combo, but the PSU went with it since the PSU he ordered was bunk, and I at least knew that one worked well for a cheapo. So I had no way to continue testing. :( I've tried to steal the PSU back but to no avail (too much WoW playing...shoulda never got him a running rig). :p

So today I was crusing the 'egg and I ran across this deal.

For once, it's a cheapo case that actually:

A. Doesn't look displeasing (no nasty off-white that looks straight outta '84).
B. Comes with a nice little exhaust fan.
C. Comes with a PSU (and it's 24-Pin native and has 18A on the 12v...good enuff for folding).
D. Doesn't cost much at all.

I'm assuming it'll be flimsy and not easy to work with, but once I assemble the box I don't plan on moving it much, and for $40 shipped it doesn't look all that bad. Nice little server case or something. Worse comes to worse, that board and CPU don't work and I build a really cheap folder to toss in there. This is one of the few impulse buys I stopped myself on, went out, then 4 hours later I still was still thinking about it and wanted to order. I figure I quit smoking a good 5+ months ago, so I can afford to splurge a little. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Just thought I'd toss a heads up in case you were a case and PSU away from a folder somehow. Gotta keep the 'roo's at bay.

Yes, but I'd probably pay $15 or $20 shipped for a cheapo PSU anyway, and this adds a case for $20-$25 shipped, and I like to look somewhat not-ghetto. If I have to pay like $50 for a case w/o a PSU forget it, I'd pay for a PSU and run her naked. But atm I'm out of Anti-Static bags/foam and I keep my folders in the living room to keep her warm, and I like company to see a line of PC's instead of a shitstorm of hardware they can kick (it's happened, even after I said "watch out for the motherboard there"....they got it on the way back. It was on the floor but on the side near a hallway and they just had enough talent to whack it. :().

Yeah, it's not always feasible to run nekkid boxen. They are nice and sexy, but sometimes you just can't do it. For that kind of price it's not a bad deal. I'm still not sure I would trust the PSU to last very long but you never know.

I've bought a couple cases like this. You had the option of getting it with or without the PSU and with the PSU was only about $5-10 more. I went with the one with the PSU and just kept it as a backup. Ended up coming in handy and is actually still running after a couple of years.

 
We'll see how the PSU is when it gets here. I'll take the multimeter to it and watch the rails. The last cheapo I had came with my Aspire X-Dreamer 2, which my PC is in but the case isn't even close to being assembled. And that's the one I gave away, and it was pretty damn solid for a cheapo no-name 350watt...rails moved but not too much from idle to load, and they stayed stable while idling or loading...never had a problem with it. Considering the motherboard I have now to work with is a smoked-up abused board that probably only had a cheapo PSU all it's life, it'll feel right at home. But I might look into one of those SVC dealies if this one blows chunks. I just ordered 2 Panaflo's from SVC today as well. They're on sale and I <3 them.
 
Well she finally showed up, and blah is the word.

Case itself looks great! I personally love the look, and think with her running in the corner, she'd be good to go....that was if I could get her runnin'. PSU wouldn't let my AthlonXP 2400+ boot, so I tried it on a naked 1.4GHz Athlon to see if maybe it diddn't have enough power. After like 5 or 6 tries I got her to boot, to see 13v on the 12v rail! :eek: Between 12.76v-12.95v. That, and the back/corner of the case was dented, making the back harder to work with (as others had posted). You'd never notice if you had her runnin' in the corner, which was my aspiration, but with a PSU that whack, not happening.

Picked up a 300watt (250watt continous) Sparkle refurb from SVC for $19 shipped UPS ground, so when that gets here I'll use that instead. I'm gonna email newegg now and bitch about the case+psu both being useless. If the case came in perfecto condition I wouldn't care that the PSU was bunk, I'd replace it and move along (that's what you get for cheaper parts). But when both parts are defective, we've got a problem. Dents and 13v rails were not in the description. :p

Well I made the phone call and they're doing the RMA refund steps that take about a week from what the guy said. He said I would then get my money back and then be told if they need the item back, which is curious. I figure that's more for like, a bad fan, but I don't wanna get stuck with the cost to ship out this big heavy, defective monster. Hopefully I get my money and can just toss it and be done with it and go back on a search for another cheap case+psu combo that comes to you in one piece and with a power supply that works. :p
