NIC card causing comp to restart.

I'll post this here, since it seems a little more relevant.

I reinstalled win98 on a compaq. Did this just to get some docs off before trying to use the factory restore discs.

Now, when I re-install the NIC card (what I thought would be the easiest way to get the docs off) it causes the comp to restart. Without the NIC, in safe mode, or with the NIC disabled, it will restart just fine.

If the card is in, or just plugged in, it won't finish loading windows. I can't even select "yes" when it asks me if I want to reinstall the drivers if the card is in.

I've been working on this for the better part of 2 days...

EDIT

Card is a Linksys LNE100TX. I've downloaded the drivers several times. Originally thought my problem was from incorrect drivers. Downloaded the newest ones and still doesn't work. Comp is a compaq with k6 processor and 56 mb of ram...

do you have another pc that you could try and install the card into? it could just be faulty...
