nforce4 chipset/motherboad drivers help

Hi guys,

I'll be finishing up my build today and I remember reading that it's best to NOT install certain Nvidia drivers from the install cd that comes with the motherboard. I'm building with an ASUS A8N5X motherboad and I'll be using an IDE hard drive.

I think I recall it's recommended to NOT install the Nforce firewall and the Nvidia IDE drivers??? Is that correct?? Sorry if my terminology is wrong!! LOL Anything else I should NOT install off that cd??

I got the rig to post last night and got into the BIOS ok..it recognized the gig of ram and my Opteron 144...just waiting on the hard drive to arrive today..

Correct with your 2 drivers to not load. I do recommend going to asus's site and grabbing everything that you'd need there also. Usually more up to date. DO NOT grab the AC97 sound drivers tho. Use the nvidia ones....much better (If your board has onboard audio...i can't remember)

thanks for the help... I'm going to try the onboard sound and see how I like it..if it sucks then I'm gonna throw in an old SB 512 card I have laying around.

Still need some help..LOL Just went to their site. Under the drivers section in the Downloads
they have listed: " nVidia Chipset(CK804) driver version V6.65 for Windows XP(WHQL)." Do I download that and then after I decide to run it I can decide which drivers to install???

Again sorry for the noob questions..

Never had any problems with the NVIDIA IDE drivers. At least except for the whole F6 thing during Windows installations.

The firewall I never install as I use my own firewall instead. The sound drivers aren't usually needed as most of the higher end boards have something beyond AC97 audio.

That's the one that you shouldn't install :p Use the nForce drivers off of nvidia.com...much better....
