Nforce2 drivers for Windows 98.

I am having a frustrating experience with my new Nforce2 motherboard. The latest drivers for Win98 on nVidia.com are from May 2003. Asus.com has more recent drivers (version 2.62), but they don't help much. Is there any way at all to find more recent versions? This one on asus.com had to come from somewhere.

Windows XP is not an option because I spent all of my money on the motherboard. My KT133 performed so perfectly compared to this, but the northbridge ont hat one is toast. Everything is performing badly, and the ethernet drivers prevent the OS from booting if you don't hack in older ones. I would trade this thing in for a VIA in a heartbeat if the store's return policy didn't suck.

Second question: On a nForce motherboard, are the IDE drivers supposed to be standard Windows drivers? I have DMA enabled and it's seriously performing like it's PIO. What can I do?

Did you make sure to re-install windows? The drivers for it shouldnt be that bad. On win98 especially, its almost a given when you change the motherboard you have to reinstall.

After I installed the board, I wiped out /hkey_local_machine/Enum/, so all drivers are installed fresh. I'll probably reinstall next.

Reinstall. Then get a copy of Win2k or something cheap, 98 won't cut it any more. There will be few, if any, new drivers for 98 now.

The current NF2 drivers for 98 are likely the last 98 drivers that wil be made for it. Many companies are slowly dropping 98 support. Nvidia is no exception.

There is already some 2k/XP only hardware out there.....

I know you said "2k/XP is not an option" but realistically, its time to move on :)

A copy of 2k can be had cheaply on eBay...........

Last i remember checking ms will drop support for win98 in 2005. (could be 04, but i think it was 05) Wow, that was six years ago. Im gettin old.

If only there were more games for linux, sure winxp isnt bad, but it costs to damn much.
