FYI

The new nForce 4 SLI x16 edition will have 40 or 38 PCI-E lanes, as well as support RAID-5 on AMD and Intel. Its quite possible you could get a x4 (or x8 on intel) for a RAID card. And without having to move to an opteron board.

No idea whether or not you can use non-graphics cards in the other x16 slot.
 
if you want to spend tons of money on a PCIe RAID card you should be able to.
