Hello Everyone.

I have a system with an MSI K7N2 Delta motherboard, and it was running fine with an AXP 1700 @ 2.1GHz. Recently I have tried this board with 2 other CPUs, a Duron 1200 and XP2500. It would not boot with either of these CPUs, nor could I access the bios setup screen.

I only tried the duron for testing purposes, and the XP2500 is the CPU that is supposed to stay in this system. Unfortunately, it won't boot, nor will it let me access the BIOS setup menu, though it does post fine, and the BIOS memory test shows that it's OK. I get no beeps or errors.. it just hangs.

I've tried to reset the CMOS, and tried forcing 100FSB using the J10 jumper. Nothing allows me to access the BIOS setup. I've also tried using 3 different keyboards. This is just plain weird.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
 
I forgot to say that the Duron 1200 which I tried in this board is now in another system and functioning perfectly, so that CPU has nothing wrong with it.. it just doesn't work in this system.
 
I really don't want to have to put the old CPU back into this machine, because applying AS3 is a pain, and also, I can't hit 200FSB with that CPU, no matter what multi I set. So could someone please shed some light on why this thing won't work?
 
Have you check for a bios update? And make sure your ram isnt craping out on you with the higher fsb of the 2500
 
Thanks for the reply. I've had the RAM running at 211FSB with no problems before. This CPU actually was running on this board before also.. at 211FSB. This is why I am confused. The RAM is PC3200, so should be no problems. I also forced 100FSB using the jumper.. so I'm running out of things to try. :(
 
Thanks for the idea, I thought maybe you were on to something. I had taken a stick of memory out before, thought to put it into another machine, then I changed my mind and put it back in. Thought maybe I inserted it wrong... but nope.... I tried 1 stick, then took it out and tried the other... still no go. this is really weird.

It's looking more and more like I'll have to swap CPUs to see if the other one works. Grr, I'm wasting valuable arctic silver here. Does anyone else have any idea as to why this board stopped working when I switched CPUs?
 
YAY I found it! Can't believe I didn't realize this sooner. A power cable had come loose from the CDROM drive. Thanks for the help everyone. :)
