Since nobody adddressed the question "What about when you use Analog?"...

Yes, the nForce APU is ALWAYS handling sound processing, as long as your drivers are installed. Even if you're not using digital out.
 
Sounds okay anolog but shines with digital out.
Have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe and a pair of Sennheiser headphones.
