I've seen it been done but I'm not exactly sure how to go about in doing so. Does anyone know how I can mod a 7000A-AlCu to make it fit onto an NF7-S?
thx for any help
on the Zalman site it reports a lot of the Abit AMD boards are incompatible with the Zalman 7000 HSF series. But doesn't mean you can't mod say the clip or something to make it work
the zalman site will say if a modded clip or a little bending of capacitors will make it fit, but with the NF7-S, it says that it is totally incompatible.
i've seen someone mod their zalman to fit their NF7-S but I forgot how this was done
It will absolutely work on the Abit NF7-v2.0 boards. I'm running the NF7-S v2.0 with a Zalman 7000A-CU (all copper, but physically the same dimensions as the 7000A-AlCu).
The trick is this: The mounting bracket on the Zalman has two holes. You need to cut the outermost hole off one side of the mounting bracket, because the bracket interferes with a capicator on the motherboard. It's a very easy modification - takes about 30 seconds if you have a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel.
Also note that the two mounting brackets must be reversed from Zalman's recommendation. Place the blue anodized and the plain aluminum brackets opposite from the positions Zalman specifies (I don't remember which one was spec'd on the lever side of the socket). This keeps the bracket from hitting the caps on the close side, but puts the heatsink approx 5mm off center on the CPU die. The contact area is more than large enough to still cover the CPU die, but Zalman labels it "incompatible" because the HSF isn't fully centered on the CPU. You also must cut off one end of the HSF mounting clip to keep it out of the caps. I know it works because I have a CNPS 7000A/Cu on my NF7-S (version 2).
Well, the forums were down for a couple of weeks, so you couldn't have posted it last week
But in any event, maybe now that the 'search' function is enabled it will help with that problem. I do have to say though, those are excellent pictures...worth well more than 1000 words!
