MOBO: Abit NF7-S v2 (Merlin D27 Bios)
Memory: Micron PC2700 (333Mhz)

VCore=1.8
Vdimm=2.8
Vdd=1.6
FSB=217
Timings=2.5-3-3-7
Alpha Timings=2-3-5-3-2-2-4
(DOE, RRD, W2P,etc.)

(217x10)
Speed=2.17GHz
Load Temp:50-51c

Memtest Stable around 220MHz (could go higher possibly, but prime95 failed here)
Prime95 Stable up to 217MHz

First off:
I don't want to touch AGP or PCI.
I don't want temps higher than 50-52c, therefore Vcore over 1.8v is not possible.
I don't want to touch timings because i will lose performance if i go 2.5-3-3-9 or 11.

What can I do to get higher FSB without modding and without new ram(I plan on getting new ram once I get the money)?

My main concern is being able to hold prime stable at 220FSB. Memtest passed, but prime didn't. Does anyone know why?

Any other advice would be appreciated. This is my first oc.
 
I know you said you dont want to touch timings, but if you dont, you wont get any further. Try relaxing your ram timings to something really loose like 3-3-3-11 then push up the FSB.
nForce 2 boards perform better with a Tras of 11 anyway. Relax the timings, find your max FSB, and run some type of memory benchmark. Then run the benchmark at your tighter timings and lower FSB. See which one scores better.


I don't think you'll get too much higher with only PC2700 memory though. :|
 
thegamerz is correct. once you get past the 200MHz spec, cas timings plays much smaller of a role in overall performance then you might think. if you can get an extra 5-10MHz out of your fsb by loosening the timings, the bandwidth make it worthg it. not to mention this is the speed of the frontside bus too, not just the ram speed. also, 1.85 is a good overclocking voltage to stick to with mobiles. i have overclocked 6 mobiles ranging from 2400's to 2600's on this nf7-s v2. the biggest hint i can give you is enabling system bios cachable. for some reason getting super high fsb overclocks, this setting helps stabilize things while not sacrificing performance. also, if you are using the cpc disabled merlin bios, i would go for a cpc enabled bios, if you really don't want to loosen your timings or increase voltage. start with: enabling system bios cachable, do a bench to see what the bandwidth looks like. check to see if you're using a cpc enabled bios. the way you can tell is if you benchmark your mem bandwidth while you have a decent clocked cpu (2GHz or higher) and the bandwidth at 200MHz is in the 2600-2800mbps range. if you're cpc enabled, it should be between high 2800's and 3100 mbps. or just go buy some patriot ddr3200 xbl with tccd and be done with it. you'll never have a problem again. i got a 256x2 set of that to 245x10.5 on that board at 1.93vcore. doesn't compare to my dfi a64 2800 now though, at 300fsb :)

i plan on getting new ram, and tccd is in mind, but isn't bh-5 better for nforce2?

i'll try to loosen my timings and see what i get.

i do realize that with pc2700 i won't get much higher than this, but my goal is 225 or 230.
