How accurate is the CPU probe? I've heard it may read high. MBM5 says my CPU is 51C at full load and I don't want to push it farther until I know I'm safe. I could use a temperature probe, but it's a huge hassle for me to remount the heatsink (I kind of messed it up, ask for details if you want :D). So I was just wondering what you guys have experienced or heard about it.
 
:p Well I have an SLK-947U (bolts through the mobo). But, since I'm an idiot, I screwed it too tightly to the standoffs so the screws are permanently screwed to the standoffs. It's very difficult to bolt the heatsink to the mobo to the backplate :)
 
Yes, all mobos tend to be off on their temp readings. Abits in general read very high. My personal exp with my NF7-S 2.0 has been that the CPU probe reads about 8c over at idle.Didnt check it at load. I borrowed the probe so dont have more than just a one time test of it but others Ive heard from put it around 10c over in general. Of course your results may vary.

51c on that isnt anything to worry about, not even close. Ive run mine up over 65c.
 
with an xp your safe up to about 80 degrees. of course the cpu life is dramatically shorter but you'll upgrade long before it dies. The best method is to just keep pushing up the clock a few MHz at a time then using a program such as prime 95 to check stability. If it will run for a few hours your probably ok. your sys. will start to crash long before heat becomes an issue so you don't really need to worry about it. Once you think you've reached the limit let prime 95 run for at least a day, if you don't encounter errors then your sys. is most likely very stable. my NF7 and 2600+ @ 2.222 is extremely stable. I would have gone much further execpt the freakin' cpu is mult. locked!! :(

Yeah I know how to overclock but most people (including myself) like to keep temps under 50-55 and I don't know how accurate my sensor is.
