Had this board for quite awhile now and its run like a champ. Recently, I've done a series of hardware upgrades, got a geforce 6800 GT, new ram, a new case and power supply.
I used to be able to push this machine to the limit, but in the last month it has started acting REALLY flakey.
Here's the deal - a couple of months ago, before the upgrades, I could run this machine with a 400Mhz CPU overclock, an obscenely high FSB, obcenely low ram timings, obscenely high voltages, overclocking the shit out of the graphics card (the 6800) and the box would take it on the chin and laugh. Sometimes Doom3 would crash back to Windows, and I'd say "well, yeah, but I was overclocking the shit out of it".
Now ... 200Mhz CPU overclock, stock FSB, stock voltages, stock ram timings, stock graphics card ... I'm in Windows, nothing else running, 35 degree CPU, 18 degree case temp ... I click on Prime95, and BAM in the space of less than half a second, the machine shuts down, temperature sirens blaring.
I find it very hard to believe that the machine went from 35 degrees to overheated in the space of half-a-second or so.
I'm beginning to suspect the ram - I went from 2x256 Crucial PC3200 Cas 3 to 2x512 Geil Value Series 2.5-3-3-6. The flakiness started about the time I put that ram in. I thought mabye I was overloading my powersupply, a 300W Antec, so I got a new case and a 400W Rosewill ( yes, I did my homework on the load on the rails and it should be fine, and the rails stay within ATX specification).
I'm getting very frustrated. This machine used to be very stable I barely even considered 11x200 to be overclocked. Now, I can barely run at all on anything over complete stock settings.
