I am researching a new build an I have a question. I know you should only use the Caviar RE2 WD4000YR with a RAID card because of the error checking. My question is would an onboard RAID 1 solution like the NV RAID on the NF4 boards be able to handle the error checking?

I would pick up the WD4000KD. Performs the same, and performs its own error recovery. Allegedly, the WD4000YR is more "reliable," but the fact that there is only $10 worth of difference in price between the drives, so there can't be that big of difference between the drives reliability wise.
