I just bought a 45w 240+ xp m and abit Nf-7 mobo to try my hand at some OCing. The problem the mobo does not seem to recognize the CPU in the BIOS or windows or anywhere. When I first booted it up it was only running at 1Ghz and its stock speed is 1.8. I got it up to 2 right now with 200x10 but I want to resolve this issue before going any further. any ideas?
thanks

I asked my brother about it because he has an NF7-S and an XP-M 2600, and he said that it's just something that happens with that BIOS when you're cold booting. If you go into BIOS, set the speed you want and then save and exit it'll run at the set speed. His mobile's running at 2.68 at 2.03V at the moment if you were curious.... he's been running it a while and hasn't had any problems with it reading the wrong speed on start up.

I guess it's just another sign of Intel superiority.... our BIOS actually reads our speed correctly ;)

Clicking the "search" button would reveal a *ton* of threads on this..It's got nothing to do with a cold booting issue - it's a Mobile chip, and no desktop board's BIOS is programmed to read the model strings off the CPU properly - hence defaulting to 5 (or is it 6)x100 FSB / "unknown CPU type" or whatever. Boo-hoo ;) you have to set the speed manually; which you would have done anyway, right? I mean, you did buy it to o/c didn't you?

yes I did buy it to OC and yes i did search the forums but few of the posts related directly to NF7 or actually poinpointed the correct action to take. (ie flash new BIOS). Anyway, thanks for the replies I just wanted to make sure there would be no adverse affects besides having to set the speed myself, which i planned on doing anyway.

It is operating correctly, there are no XP-M cpu's listed in that boards bios lookup table. The idea being is that the coders of the bios never thought ahead that one day a mobile cpu would be used on your motherboard.

The only motherboard that officially supports and recognizes the XP-M cpu's is the DFI lanparty series. That series of motherboard officially now supports every socket A cpu that AMD has produced.
