Just loaded CM7. Really digging it so far, the phone seemed a little snappier after flashing the rom... quadrant says there is about a 700 point difference (~1300 stock, ~1950 after)... is that typical?

Most likely this is due very little to rom/kernel improvements. Usually CM7 is overclocked to some degree by default.

You can find this, from what I recall, in the "Performance"subset of the Cynogen Settings in the regular Settings menu. It will "warn you that dragons are ahead" before you can enter that menu.

More than likely you can squeeze a little more than that out of your phone, maybe 22-2400 in quadrant.

It has nothing to do with being overclocked. The CM7 kernel isn't even overclocked by default.

It has something to do with JIT compiling or something. In reality most custom kernels are tweaked with Quadrant in mind, and these tweaks result in little to no actual real life performance gain.

If you have the advanced version of quadrant you'll notice most of the gains come from the cpu test. Most if not all aosp rom's see the this kinda gain. However, if you cross check the cpu scores in something like Linpack you'll see they don't change simply by having an aosp based rom. So basically yeah its some quadrant "trick" I'll stop short of calling it a cheat.

I mean if you want some giggles this was my best quadrant from my Fascinate on CM7 OC'd to 1.6Ghz.

But really at the end of the day what is it worth?
