Well, as Christmas rolls around, I figure that a, possible small, upgrade will take place. Now, I have yet to decide what I want to do, so I am asking you all this. I have thought of a few options, have gotten reccomendations from people, and these are the choices I have come up with (other suggestions are welcome):

NEW MOBO:
- Abit NF-7
- ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe

NEW MOBO AND CPU
- ASUS A8V Deluxe
- A64 3200+ s939

NEW VIDEO CARD
- Nvidia 6800 or GT
- Possibly X800 Pro VIVO

NOTHING:
- :p, obviously, nothing

NEW HDD
- 250GB HDD or something of the like

And, of course, if anyone has any suggestions, I will account them. Please, if you can, tell me what you think is the best upgrade for my system and WHY! I'd like to know why you think like you do, even though it may be scary :p.

and p.s.: i did try to go all nice, capitalized and shit, but in reality, its just a fake way to make it look nice :D
 
I would go for the A64 upgrade, sell the 9800 and your CPU and Mobo, then buy a 6800nu.

i was thinking almost the same thing except maybe getting the GT instead (i'd rather get the 16 pipelines out of the box), but the x800 pro vivo sounds nice too...anyone else?

I picked the nu cause I thought you had a budget requirement, but if you can fork over the extra dough, by all means, get the GT :)
 
well, for now, i'm not sure about cost wise....cuz my birthday is in april, so i could wait till then for a video card purchase....i can also leave my watercooling on my video card and hope to OC it to hell and back to compete with my CPU....anybody else? :p

I'd also recommend the A64, but it might easily be worth it to wait a tad longer and get the 16 pipe GT out of the box. The NU is no slouch compared to that 9800 though, and with the high success rate of the softmod right now I'd say you'd be good to go in either situation.
 
I'd do the a64 3000+ 90 micron. Its on sale at monarch for 163.00

The vid cards will only get cheaper in the near future and you seem to be getting good performance from your with excellent cooling allowing for high-end overclocking.

Ditto, they're ridiculously cheap for what they are and how well they overclock.
 
Mobo+Cpu

Because its worth it. I simply rationalized it.

Mobo alone = worthless, you'l have all the same system specs.
Graphics Card = With old system = Possible bottleneck
New HD = Why...?

Youll have a faster PC with decent parts. :-P

i would recommend a new cpu and wait a little while for a new vid card (of course... u could just buy MY 6800GT... :D )

The cpu on your computer now is a bottleneck... it seems like it at least (u overclock it yet?) so i would recommend a new cpu... 3200 or 3000 should be enuff with the vid card you have now...

u should just wait for a new vid and oc the one you have now...

but... this is coming from me

Well, I haven't checked to see if it IS out yet, but there's a 3500+ 90nm out or on the way that seems like it'll be the chip to have.....basically we're gonna get all the same beautiful overclocks out of it, but running temperatures will be much lower which will be nice for air cooling overclockers.

I can only recommend the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum of Asus A8V right now for s939 boards. If you can get the second revision (which most are now) of the Asus board it'd PROBably be your better bet, as it'll have the working PCI/AGP lock, and the MSI is still one of the most quirky boards I've ever seen when it comes to memory.

EDIT: In Feb or March I'll probly have enough saved up to sell off my P4 and move to a nice nForce4 SLI setup with at least the 3500+ 90nm rigged up to my h2O. I think in the new year I might move to a 2x120mm rad so that I can have both video cards running off the water.....cus I'm NOT going to be attempting any overclocking with two 6800's or X800's sandwiched togethor sucking air off each other. :p

get an FX-55 and a 6800 Ultra... :D :D :D

just go with a cpu/mobo now, wait for a new vid, and you should be good... cause u already have an envious psu

anyway, the X800 PE might be better than the 6800 Ultra... i'll put some research into that...

too bad that damn canadian (no offense cornelious :eek: ) fuxx0r3d up ur computer...eh, well...it'll all work out....i would think that 2 x800xt pe's would be better than 2 ultra's because of the AA and AF benefits...but maybe that's just me

Haha, none taken. :p

Depending on what route/shape ATI's Multi-Rendering takes, it may or may not be a competitive solution, as some people still have their doubts.....but I would be willing to say that if both companies DID implement "SLI" in the same form, that I'd much rather have 2 XT-PE's then 2 6800U's.....mostly because of the already present AA/AF advantage that the X800's do hold, and partially because the cards run single slot coolers out of the box and would be a little bit LESS of a heat issue.
 
but you also hafta keep in mind that ATI is thinking about going dual-slot cooling for the next core series...but that's for another thread....

hey, umm...i dont really know what's wrong with my watercooling, because my temps and stability are horrible. I tried to overclock to 2.4GHz (with RAM timings of 3-4-4-8...should be doable, right?) and it wouldn't boot. I got it to boot at 2.3GHz, but with little stability. With my old RAM, I could get up to 2.4GHz no problem, and that was with 3-4-4-8 timings...am I not seeing something here? and the temp problem i was talking about...while sitting here typing this with nothing but IE running, MBM5 says 41*C....that's outrageous! the block doesn't even feel warm. But I'm not gonna compare with anyone, I'm comparing it to my Volcano 11+ which kept my proc at 2.2GHz at 42*C under load!! That's amazing compared to what my watercooling is doing IDLE!!!

whoa... that sux...

u had problems with muskin ram before, had to rma a... lot...

maybe ur mobo just does NOT like muskin... yah, i know, it sounds like crap, but i may be on to something :rolleyes:

about the temps... i dunno... all i can say is... WTF???

maybe u should INVITE ME OVER and i can help (yes that's right, i'm helpful...)
