Next Tomb Raider

Well, luckily I did write a diatribe about it when it came out: http://madblog.shacknet.us/shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-2018/

Can't disagree with any of your points, except I wouldn't call the story just underwhelming....I thought it was absolute trash and a thinly veiled attempt at virtue signaling given that the plot was an allegory about colonialism and destruction of indigenous cultures. Like I need to be fucking lectured when trying to enjoy a video game...

In 2018 I was still blissfully unaware of the activism that had infiltrated gaming, so I assumed everything bad about the game is incompetence, not malice.

Honestly looks terrible.
Looks like they just went full out Uncharted this time.
The first two were astronomically better and yes I agree ... it felt like the third game had no soul. I've always enjoyed the Tomb Raider games even when they weren't that great. This new one has me concerned, though ... especially after everything I've heard about the people in charge of making it. At least she doesn't look trans like the original concept art, but she still doesn't look graet.
That art was for a tabletop game that was cancelled.
The recent animated show is pretty decent
🤣
She's supposed to be British and in the trailer she actually looks British. However, that's where the good ends. She looks and sounds like she's 40+ and pretending to be 15 years younger. The face and the voice are very off.

The game was bad. It was 60 hours of "gameplay" with about 7.5 hours worth of story. The rest of it was boring grind to keep the playtime longer. I barely managed to make it through the game and only because I forced myself. The story wasn't even that good and the premise of it being that Lara is the reason the world is going to end. It doesn't help that she's gloomy and depressed the whole time. That aspect was bad enough in Rise but it went full throttle in Shadow. It was a horrible tonal choice for both of the last two games and feels like there was a huge time jump between the first and the second where a lot of stuff happened.
Alic Wilton Regan is both the voice and motion capture actress. She has appeared in a lot of video games apparently. She is 39 years old.

My issue with Shadow was the odd focus on amassing a pile gear that you only used a handful of times. I kept waiting for the moment when the action part of the game was finally going to begin. As an platforming puzzle game it was fine. The previous 2 games leaned into the action/shooter elements a lot more.

As far as this goes, I need to see more of the actual game before I can have an opinion. A cutscene doesn't really tell me much.

They brought back the PonyTail and cool jumping for the PS1 days.

One of the major criticisms of the reboot games, at least the first two, was that it lacked tomb raiding. They were both more third-person shooter than action adventure like the originals.

Not sure how they could have made a worse teaser...

Still lot of time until 2027 at least (and amazon studio money if they show them something good to be excited about, to support). With that budget and being a tv universe project ( I am guessing), maybe there will be able to make a full game instead of those strange stop the story to gather some string to make bows and arrows "RPG", is there a mod to skip all of those ?

What is this face? Looks like it belongs in Fortnite.

Don't know who the face model is, but it doesn't look like the motion capture/voice actress.

with sophie turner playing the role on TV, maybe they should have tried to buy her appearance. Too expensive in the past for the amount of voice work, but could get around that today.

I don't hate the design, though it just looks less photo realistic. It is a pre-render though. Hopefully the actual game looks better. It might be odd but FF7 Remake/Rebirth real time characters look better than the pre-rendered cut scenes. So I wouldn't put too much thought into a render, wait until gameplay comes out.

I was barely paying attention when I watched the trailers live, but have since rewatched them. She looks pretty good in the Tomb Raider 1 remake. She just looks off in the Catalyst trailer.

Looks like they went for a hybrid (?) face of the reboot series for Atlantis. In terms of designs and dynamism I like what Weta did for their statue a few years ago, so seeing the gymnastics of the trailer was nice. I wonder if it'll offer more freedom to explore than the prior remake.

Crystal Dynamics should just give her an Anime head. The Reboot Tomb Raider from two years ago is perfect. Sometimes when you make it realistic you don't identity or see the real character anymore but try to compare it the original.

Tomb Raider: Catalyst picks up "years after" 2008's Underworld, finally continuing Lara Croft's story from the Legend trilogy after almost two decades

"From a timeline perspective, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set years after the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld," Will Kerslake, game director at developer Crystal Dynamics, told GamesRadar+, "with the reboot trilogy serving as her origin story, so we're seeing a more experienced Lara Croft"

Despite following up a game that'll be 19 years old by the time Catalyst is out Kerslake is keen to point out fans won't need to dig out their Xbox 360s for a refresher..."What's important to know is that this is a new chapter in Tomb Raider," he states. "So whether you followed Lara from the start, or this is your first Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is designed to stand on its own as an adventure that can be enjoyed by everyone"...

It never does. They always uglify the voice actress for no reason.

Looks kind of like a weird Natalie Portman.

Yeah ... they should've just kept this.

Or... OR... you can just play it on PC.

Good news is Legacy of Atlantis is still coming in February. Most new sites seem to mixed the two up.
