Im interested in getting a new display.. Im convinced that dual display sucks (you alwyas end up using one over the other, so its a waste of money, and its a pain to spread out all your windows after you boot up...ran dual for 2 years and ended up hating it)

So, if you had a 2001FP and didnt plan on going dual, what display would you get next?
 
The display forum has several threads that deal with topics just such as this. The current favorite seems to be an HP 23" display. I'd suggest searching it, and if you still can't find what you are looking for, post.

Definitely this one. I know two employees who got to keep them after a trade show. Let's just say both work from home all the time now.
 
the hp has also had alot of quality control issues regarding dead pixels and what not from the reviews ive read
 
My 23" HP L2335 come with no dead pixels. No matter with LCD you get, you have a chance of dead pixels, etc...... The next step up would be a 23" widescreen or that nice Apple 30"
 
The big problem as I see it is, once you top 20” and your happy there is no common sense way to go. No matter what you do your in the 2K range after you really start looking around.

The 24” Samsung will probably be my next goal, up from my 213T.

Still, that’s a hell of a price jump..Huge…Monster…Leme check my credit card balance………. ;)

Sounds to me you have not properly setup your environment. Why would you need to spread out some windows after you boot? :confused:

I have an average of 20 program windows including 3 remote server windows open on a daily basis when I work. The dual display setup and multi-display management software make all of the difference. I am moving to 3 1600x1200 displays in the next two months (currently running 2 1280x1024).
 
Because after I boot there are no windows open. So I start opening stuff. Im a coder, and I ususally have 3-4 ultra edit's open, 5-6 ssh terminals, 10-15 internet explorers, in addition to the ususal sonique, outlook, blah blah. If Im making posters or writing papers, Ive got photoshop and macromedia flash open too.

The thing is, if you have zero windows open, you have to start opening them. And they all end up on one screen, so you start moving them around, and its a hassle. Also, I find that when I am coding or debugging, Most of my work is going on in one monitor, and the other code or debugging output only gets looked at once or twice, making the other monitor very secondary and not worth it. (IMO) Alt tab makes turning yoru head sort of pointless, unless you're watching many differnt things at once and not interacting - like watching numerous stock tickers or server windows. I tend to interact with my computer more, and thus get focussed on one screen.

I guess it comes to the philosophy that if you want to use your monitors asymmetrically, then dual monitors is fine. I just find it hard to justify the cost, and I was looking for a way to use them symmetrically. I'd rather have two monitors for disparate purposes, like the LCD tv for gaming and watching TV, and the screen for codiing and what not.

Actually windows remembers the exact position of the last window closed for any program whether you are using a single monitor or multiple ones.

I am suprised that with the amount of program windows you have open you don't find any use to having more than one monitor.

Remember that you will lose precious desktop space if you go for a single big monitor unless it has super high resolution like the 30" apple display.

2 1280x1024 displays give you more desktop space (14% more) than a single 1920x1200 like most 23" LCDs are currently.

2 1600x1200 will give you 67% more desktop space than a single 1920x1200 and will cost less too. ;)
 
1. buy 2x 2001FP
2. remove outer frame on both lcds
3. place the two screens as close together as they can get
4. use nvidia's nview to enable dual display, instead of window's

nview makes your duals "one" screen (windows will detect it as one 3200x1200 monitor).

an even better idea might be to mount your displays sideways, so you have one 2400x1600 display ;)
 
That sounds sweet but don't only a select few games support dual display. So a given game would only run on one monitor? Curious, becuase I have never tried dual monitor display. Crap, I got 2 monitors, here I guess I will just do it...
