Some people are predicting a rapid change to networking architecture as we know it in the coming years. They are also suggesting that companies who are not willing to make those changes quickly will probably cease to exist.

"NGNs as we see today are not a matter of choice. As a service provider it is a must-do in order to compete and deliver what our customers need," Mahmoodshahi said.

although there's also the kit that hangs off the networks (unless what's being referred to as 'Networks' already encompasses that). The amount of data that people store seems to be soaring at quite a rate. Backing up that data is becoming a real headache - windows of opportunity are shrinking as the data grows and the kit, in some cases, simply isn't quick enough to keep up. Sure, you can continuously snapshot, but then you've got to get that off site, and all before the next backup is due to run!

Maybe I've grabbed the wrong end of the scalpel, but those are some of my thoughts. :)
