I’m not sure how these numbers were compiled, whether these are consoles sitting in a warehouse, in transit or actual units sold but they look about right. I say “about right” because you can’t find the Wii in a retail store and it has been three weeks since my Wii died during the first auto update and I still don’t have a replacement, so there can’t be too many just sitting around.

Nintendo has managed to sell 3.19 million Wiis since the console was launched. That's a million in Japan, 1.32 million in the US, and an addition .86 million sold over the rest of the world. To put this in perspective, the Xbox 360 has sold 7.74 million consoles in a year.

My story is worse.

The day after I get one, the WiiConnect24 auto update gives me the dreaded error code 110213. Then it starts cycling on and off repeatedly.

My Nintendo PR person is handling this but yes, everyone else seems to be getting their back waaaay before I am.

Damn Steve! Are you cursed or something? First the XBox 3600 dies, then your Wii? ;)

"Meanwhile the PS3 has only sold 1.18 million, and with consoles sitting on the shelves as we speak I can't imagine that number growing too much until they get some big name games on the shelves."

14 December 2006: Sony Expects To Hit PS3 Target

I would just like this opportunity to say that I told you so.

Well, sometimes I think that BUT....the truth be told....you are looking at a guy that, because of my job, requires that I buy all the consoles that come out...at launch (which everyone knows is the worse time to buy them).

So, while the average Joe has 1 - 2 consoles, I have to have ALL the consoles and all of them are usually bought at launch and I usually have 2 - 3 of each. The chances of me getting a bum unit are the SAME as everyone else, I just happen to buy more consoles than the average consumer.

;)

maybe nintendo prioritizes customers over media

It'll be hysterical if after all the hype and stories to the contrary, the Wii eclipses the 360 in units sold by their March year end.

Sucks for your poor luck Steve...I bet you haven't even seen one in store to by with your own coin, have you? (as I imagine you'd have scooped one up that way if you found it so you could soldier on for us)

Sony hasn't issued any statements as to the correct figures so everything you read are just plain estimates.

Personally, I think all of the numbers including Nintendo Wiis are very optimistic numbers.

If Sony managed only 190K for launch, how did they manage over 1.1 million for the next 4 weeks when all you hear for the better part of the 4 weeks that no one could find a PS3 in stock.
