I'll admit, I w00t for AMD quite a bit more then I do for intel, but that doesn't stop me from wondering what intels got up its sleeve.

AMD is currently wowing us with coming out with main-steam 64-bit procs a while back, and more recently with its FX series and then s939 Opterons. But what about intel? When do you guys expect a "Pentium 5"? :p I'd really like to see a peak at whats coming, does anyone have any info?

Basically the Pentium 5 will be 20-50 times faster than the Pentium 4.

I think Conroe will be the Pentium 5, though. Cedar Mill is the same thing as prescott, except smaller (more profitable) and has virtualization.

65 nanometer parts begin in early 2006 with evolutionary improvements to the Pentium M and D platforms. Then in the second half of next year, the new Conroe and Merom cores will be introduced.

So what about the faster clocking Pentium D's, i just bought a 945p chipset, but im waiting for the faster pentium D's to come out before i stick one in, im currently running a P4 630.

So the faster pentium D's ganna be out January then?

Conroe is suppose to be somthing spectacular. i for one can't wait to see what it can do. if by then DDR2 has matured enough (ie, lower price, tighter timings), maybe it will be time for an upgrade

haha I would never believe the P5 would be 20-50 times faster than the P4, right....
if intel claim this they are starting to sound like sony.

i think that was the poster's exaggeration

I love Sony and Intel ;) I have no doubt the next wave of Chips from Intel will blow everyone away. Intel got caught with major egg on their face with the lastest AMD offereings. Hell, AMD has historically always been an option to get decent performance for little dough, not they can price chips similar to Intel and kick their ass in the process... But competition is good. AMD and nVidia have the performance crowns now, but by next year anyone who wants the best rig will be running Intel/ATI.
