I was after the Pcpower and cooling 750 Silencer but the salesmen told me that they
where not going to bring that model in, After many months waiting

What is the next BEST psu around?

My specs might look like this in a couple of months plus I am a hardcore gamer

Asus Board
Dual core or quad core
8800GTX
Windows vista
2 gig of ram
Audigy 2
7 120 Coolermaster fans
Cmstacker 830
3 hard drives
burner
Dvd rom
floppy
30" HP or 30" Dell

go buy it at Newegg or something, it is an awesome PSU, probably the best for the price.

Why dont you order a PCPW from newegg?

I would assume that a PCPW 610 would be enough to juice a 8800GTX. A requirement for the 8800GTX is 30A on the 12v rail assuming a fully loaded system. The 610 has 49A on the 12v.

yes, but just in case if he ever wants to SLI them, he will need to upgrade his PSU. I would seriously considering finding a 750 somewhere, it will be very future proof, (unless of course the G90 uses twice the power of the G81, if then, I will never buy a video card again)

Look at models from Seasonic, Silverstone, and Corsair.

I like to buy the psu in Australia I tried to buy it from USA but the postage was
too much like AU$100?

I have been looking at the Silverstone Zeus 850 and the topower 1000 watt which one
is the better make please?

The Zeuss is going to be better and probably cost less. When given the choice of those two PSUs I'd go with the 850w Silverstone.

By far the Silverstone.

Enermax Galaxy 850
More than you will need for the config, and, as far as I know, cheaper than the 750.

you gotta be kidding me. ;)

Corsair HX 620

agreed. just received mine from the egg this morning. already installed and purring like a kitten. box is labeled "sli certified".

My bad, I was thinking of the PCP&C 850 for price comparison.

The enermax 850 is higher priced than the PCP&C 750

However...
Specs :

PCP&C SILENCER 750
+3.3V@24A,
+5V@30A,
+12V@60A,
-12V@0.8A,
+5VSB@3A

Single 12V Rail? Heh.
83% efficiency.

Somehow, it "peaks" at 825 watt when it's a 750watt.

825w * 0.83 = 684.75, not 750.

DUAL SLI certified.
Not Modular psu.

enermax 850 galaxy

+3.3V@30A,
+5V@30A,
+12V1@17A,
+12V2@17A,
+12V3@17A,
+12V4@17A,
+12V5@17A,
-12V@0.6A,
+5VSB@6A
ACTIVE PFC
85% efficiency

Peak Total power is actually 1,016 watts,
but after efficiency rating, they knock it down to 850.

Modular PSU

QUAD SLI CERTIFIED

--5-- 12v rails

What would I be kidding about?

The 1000watt (instead of 850watt) version is only $50 more (or $150 less than the PCP&C)

Not knocking pcp&c.. but enermax makes a great product, and has been at it longer than -almost- anyone out there.

Actually, the PCPnC is rated at 750w sustained. Most companies rate their psu's for their maximum peak, not sustained. Additionally, the 1kw Galaxy has been shown to have out-of-spec ripple:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=25&page_num=5

I would buy the PCPnC before either Galaxy. A single 12v rail is better in some applications, and nvidia is recommending single rails for the 8800's. More rails != better.

Again, corsairs ARE seasonics.. :)

Again, I know this. Doesn't change the fact that if he buys a Corsair it will be branded.... well... Corsair oddly enough. :p :)

and indeed mine was branded corsair. :) i must say i'm digging its modular capabilities. my case never looked so neat.

Wrong math. The 83% efficiency has nothing to do with the difference between the peak and sustained power levels. It means that 83% of the AC power coming out of the wall is turned into DC, and 17% is turned into heat in the PSU itself. At it's maximum sustained power level of 750W, it would be drawing just over 900 from the wall. Peak capacity refers to the ability of the PSU to handle a brief surge in demand without dropping the voltage levels. AFAIK this is done by draining the charge in the capacitors at a faster rate than they can be charged, which is why iit can only be sustained for a very short time. The 750W level can be sustained continiously as long as you have good power coming from the wall.

I can get the PCpower and cooling 1kw for AU$599

Enermax The Galaxy 1KW for AU$489

Silverstone Zeus ST85ZF for AU$355

Topower ESP 1000watt for AU$430

Which one would you go for thanks?

Definatly the silverstone. why? because the enermax = ripples out of spec, and topower is well... topower.

Is it a concern when they have 3 to 5 rails than just one rail?
A concern as in bad...not necesarily. A concern as in something to just double check to make sure it is compatible since it may deviate from the ATX spec's yes. The Silverstone breaks down like this:

http://jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=15
12V1: CPU-1. Typically powered through the 4-pin connector of a power supply. On the ST75ZF, power for CPU-1 is provided by the first two 12V wires on the 8-pin EPS+12V connector.
12V2: CPU-2. Typically, dual CPU motherboards that would require each CPU have it's own 12V rail would get it's power from the second two 12V wires on the 8-pin connector. Silverstone also puts the SATA connectors on this rail as well as PCI-e connector #3.
12V3: This rail powers many things. The EPS AUX 6-pin is on this rail, as is all of the Molex connectors (used for hard drives, floppy and optical drives, fans, lights, etc.) and the main ATX connectors (powers fan headers and slot powered cards that require 12V.) PCI-e connector #4 is also on this rail.
12V4: This rail is dedicated for use with PCI-e connector 1 & 2.

So you should be fine as your 8800GTX will have it's own rail if you use the PCI-E connectors on 12v4.

thanks, Got down to two psu's the Pcpower and cooling 1kw AU599 or Silverstone 850

Is there a High-end psu with 1 x12 v rail not including Pcpower and cooling 750 silencer
around thanks?

Well the Seasonic M12, and Corsair build Seasonics don't restrict amperage on the 12v's so it goes where needed so they are effectively single rail. Zippy/Emacs make some real high end single rail units but they are server units so they are loud.....but bullet proof....they do have a gaming line now that has less agressive fans that you might consider. An example is here http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=14
