US KitKats taste awful. Horrible soapy Hershey style chocolate.

I agree. Most chocolate in the US is too waxy. This is due to the design for exceptionally long shelf life. In general most US mass market chocolate is awful. I find it to be of higher quality while traveling abroad.

Check the wrapper for ingredients. If it has PGPR, put it back. That's what they're using to stretch out the taste (and shelf life) of chocolate in replacing the cocoa butter.
