Dont really know much about them, but I hear you can download all kinds of stuff from them? From an ISP im guessing? I dont mind paying monthly either if I have too. Let me know what you know, any help would be appreciated.
You're kinda on the borderline of the rules with the way you worded that. Anyway, I'm going to pretent that you are just asking how to access usenet groups. A very popular newsreader for windows(at least back in the day when I used windows) was Agent. A popular one for linux is Pan. A lot of ISPs do provide a usenet feed, but their binary retention rates are sometimes a bit less than usable(the binary groups take up a shitton of space for a full feed with decent retention). You can get your ISP's usenet server address from them. If you want to subscribe to a usenet feed then you can use something like giganews. And for the record, there is a LOT more to usenet then just downloading stuff.
Go here and read. Most ISP's will have a news server that you can use. Alot of the bigger ISP's now thou are removing the attachments or filtering known groups that have binaries that have copyrighted material in them.
Also in the above link check out the section called [External Links] as there is alot of links there to really good info and basic beginners guides.
Also I am not positive that the wording of your post will fly around here. You might wanna remove what exactly it is you are looking for and just ask more general questions. Just my 2 cents thou.
I have used New Demon and had good results but moved to Giganews for their longer retention (almost double). I think though that News Demon was quicker.
I have used a few readers and although I really wanted to be happy with Mozzila Thunderbird its only good as a reader, not for downloading (things like concerts people). Thats my opinion though, you or anyone else might have better results.
NewsRover came with NewsDemon service (free) and that is the best program I have used. Its great that you can search for a phrase like "John and Bill live" or anything. You will get results pretty quick.
Now use NewsBin but I think I am going to go and buy News Rover becuase its just that much easier to use.
But I have to recommend Giganews for their retention rate.
ok so i signed up to giganews and downloaded "agent". Im still new at this but all I can view is like ppls posts and what not. . How would I go about downloading videos, pictures, etc.?
Downloading is pretty straightforward. You should be able to just click a post with a binary attachment and agent will pop up a download box. I'm not sure if agent automatically handles multipart files or not, so you might have to select all the posts for a particular file and combine them.
