Started up folding recently after my Grandmother's Alzheimers took a turn for the worse. I have a question about what kind of PPH I might be able to bring in with 2 computers I plan on running. Right now i'm running this on a 2600+ Thoroughbread, but I have BRAND NEW! parts sitting in my living room, waiting for the case to arrive in the mail (should of came tonight, but UPS sucks so much :thanks newegg!: that they ruined the shipping label during shipping and they have to "reverify" and I won't get it until monday)

Parts are a 805D, eVGA7600gt, 1 gig of Patriot Signature DDR2-667, watercooling for the OC on the 805. (plan on hitting 4ghz) ect ect. I plan on running each PC 24/7, only time not folding is when i'm gaming on the 805D.

So what kind of PPH do you think I could haul in? Right now this 2600+ hasn't been doing so hot, 6 WU for 1k points after somewhere around 2 weeks. Also is F@H capable of running off of both cores for a total of 3 CPUS?

1) UPS Sucks
2) OC that baby
3) Leave it running while u game, no difference - Folding only uses up idle cycles
4) Dual Core, run two instance of folding.
5) ????
6) Profit

you can always run it naked until you get your case. I have a naked box running in my office right now. no big deal.
 
I can't help you on how many points per hour you can expect, but I can help you on your other question.

To support the 2 cores you will need to create 2 folding folders and copy the setup file into both, and then set up each seperately. Note: in the install you will need to select the advance option and setup the first folder to use core 0, and the second folder as core 1. or 1 and 2 -- I forget if they start at 0 or 1. That's all I do. Also use the console client and set it up as a service when it asks, the graphical version is unstable, and conflicts with games and other graphical things.

400 PPD lowest, ~ 1400+ PPD maybe highest for both rigs. Config for big packet WU's and be good to go.

The 805D rig is actually going to be my gaming rig/workstation/whatever else computer, so right now I don't want to hassle with setting it up caseless, just to pop it all in a case a day later, then install the watercooling. So for now the hardware sits in mint condition boxes... for now. Though I can't wait to get it up and running. I might try to get another computer folding soon, make it 3.
 
what water cooling rig did you get? did you get a kit, or DIY?

I DIY'ed it, AquaXtreme IceFloe waterblock, CSP-Mag pump, some Masterkleer tubing, Swiftech MCRES Micro-Reservoir, and a BIP120, should work fine on the 805, i'm really confident I can get close or hit 4ghz stable. (got it all from Petra's btw, Petra's rules!)

This is the second WC rig i've done.

Petra is a pretty well known member in the Overclocking/Cooling section of these boards, he created his own shop.
 
thanks for the info... I'm just "testing the waters" of watercooling. Will probably use it on my next box.
 
Good Luck! Watercooling is certainly a fun endeavour, but if you do it incorrectly or sloppily, it could yield to pretty horrible results. But the benefit it gives to overclocking and the epeen growth you get out of showing your friends (who have no clue what is inside a computer) that its cooled by water, definatly makes it worth it :-p
 
Welcome to the team! Enjoy those new pristine parts too! ;)

As for an answer to your question, I don't have any numbers, but a link to a tool that marty found this week: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1108548. It's an F@H benchmarking tool that should give you a pretty good idea on where your rig will stand once its folding full time.
