I think that's because nf4 mobos support hot-plugging SATA (at least, I THINK they do). It's really for a server situation. "Oh noess! The HD is busted. Stop the drive so we can swap it out without having to shut the server off." Correct me if I'm wrong.Jasonx82 said:Is it just me or now in my taskbar it has that safely remove hardware icon... Grab a download of driver cleaner pro
DOWNLOAD THE NVIDIA DRIVERS FIRST
run DC
select nforce chipset from the list and hit start.....reboot then install the new drivers that you PREVIOUSLY downloaded (you will have no net connectivity at this point if you use onboard LAN) and then after thats done installing...reboot....done!

just hit accept to get the file...

Although I was having some issues with stability after this driver install. I did not post it earlier because I had changed alot of settings and even the BIOS to 1004.001. I was having issues running BF:V at 1600x1200 online stable. I clocked down to default speeds and was still noticing issues, so I have reverted back to 1002 BIOS and switched from the Nvidia LAN (with firewall) to the marvell LAN without firewall and everything seems to be fine. I htought it might have been firewall related because I had been usinging the Nvidia LAN and Firewall version from the original Asus A8N-SLI CD, but when I installed these drivers I didn't update the LAN manager and Firewall app that cam e with this latest download (it asks you right after installing the 6.39 drivers if you also want to install the network apps)...
Anyway I dunno if my probs were fixed from flashing back to 1004.001 or switching LAN , but I do know that the DM 10 drive wasn't having any probs being detected in BIOS 1004.001, when I was using it. It might be a possibility that these drivers fixed the BIOS recognition problem, because I saw that other people whi switched to 1004.001 were having detection issues (this was before the 6.39's came out)
J-Mag said:well i rebooted like 10+ times with 1004.001 and 6.39 with no loss of disc drives, but not knowing what was causing my game to shutdown during overclocking was starting to make me roll back to 1002.
If an app crashes but windows is still running you would normally blame the vid card right? (well if it was d3d or opengl)
I have been clocking my dual 6800GT's at 417core 1130mem, so I pushed them down to stock and was still getting dropped back into windows...
I guess my theory of the vid card to blame was no go and I am truely thinking it was a combo of the LAN driver and Version of Network Access Manager or the Firewall that were having incompatabilities... I will try to re-install the drivers again with the updated versions of the software and check for stability problems when using the Nvidia LAN
Arvig said:You know, interesting that you do mention the video card. When I went to the MSI board, I hadn't done a strong OC on my two 6800GT's, but I did have the GPU at 6800 Ultras speeds...i.e. 400 core. Now, I can maybe do 385 core while using 6.39 Final as my chipset driver....I can't quite finish 3dMark 03 without going that low at least.
I never put in the firewall driver and software, just the Lan Driver itself, but I am also using the NVidia port.
Could be coincedence, but since you mentioned it, I'd say it since it is somewhat similar.
asmielia said:sticky2, I had the exact same issue (see my thread on driver cleaner). I had Dual Raptors in Raid 0 as my OS drive, used driver cleaner and then when I rebooted Windows kept saying there was data corruption.
I have just put this rig together, and my first instinct was that this had something to do with my Maxtor DM10 NCQ drive causing data corruption, even though the OS wasn't running on that drive. Since I hardly had any data on my OS drive, I just killed it and reformatted with a fresh install, however in retrospect, there may be an easy way to rebuild.
My suggestion is to plug in your floppy drive with the floppy of the nvidia RAID drivers that came with your mobo, then boot up the Windows XP installation CD, and go to "repair installation". Make sure to hit F6 to load the RAID drivers off the floppy first, then you'll actually be able to access your OS drive. Then try copying the files off the floppy into C:\Windows\System32 or C:\windows\system. That might do it.

Also, I have noticed different abilities for overclocking my GT's when the PSU is connected differently (i.e. 2 clean molex lines w/out any other power leeches going to each part of the molex to pci-e adapter)
I wouldn't think that the chipset driver would slow down your GT overclock.... And is this with one or two?
BTW I put a 120mm panaflo fan over them when running at 417 1130 it usually drops their temps down to about 28-30C idle as read through the driver control panel (nTune seems to read completely different / much higher values...)
