UPDATE: They finally refunded me full amount after many emails I sent to them.
I'd still buy from them, just as long I don't plan to return it.
Make sure you take pictures like you're dealing with ebay sellers.

Hey guys, and update from within this thread,
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1739445,

I gotta go back to work now but quick cliffs and i'll update tonight.

I bought PNY GTX 670 from Newegg, what arrived was not as shown on the pictures. The reference cooler is loud but the main problem is that it had HOLES in it, so hot air goes back in to the case. The point of a reference cooler is to push all heat out for the cost of noise.

Total cost was $343.

I RMA'd , and yesterday I got my refund of.. $186. They charged me restocking fee even though site says we waive restocking fee if item was not was shown on site. And did not give me back the $100 because of the 2 game cards THAT I SENT BACK. I ziplocked the game cards and put it on top the VGA box and wrapped it with bubble wrap so it wouldnt bounce around in the box, and now they're saying that I didn't ship it back..

CSR was of no help, saying it was my personal decision to return it so nope on restocking fee, and that they did not see my game cards.

I just typed out a big all rant and emailed to them, I'll update tonight.

Be sure to make this as public as possible, tweet and Facebook it. This is not the sort of business practice that should go unnoticed.

Oh man, sorry to hear this. I agree - make this public. Newegg - how the mighty have fallen! I shop at Amazon now.

so when did they start charging for the game cards. that sounds shady as fuck.

Leave feedback on their site. This is not normal for them. They have made it right plenty of times for me in the past.

the game cards are "Free" with purchase. Therefore, they have zero value. You can't buy a GTX 670 for $186. I'd dispute it with my credit card company. Newegg would get the shaft then.

Thats not really true though. If people steal or keep the game cards, they will charge you for them...... and they should.

I dont know what people are complaining about here. So, someone made a mistake with the game cards in return center, mistakes happen. Get over it. Glad you got it sorted out.

The problem is they could say they never received them with the return.

I bought a GPU w/ a game card. My son lost the card. It was never used. Does that mean I can get Newegg to send me another? Not likely.

I used to be a big fan of Newegg. Between their return policies, and hard-drive shipping techniques, I've found alternative websites at which to shop whenever I can.

Too bad for them.

If anyone here plans to return anything, make sure to take pictures like you do with ebay sellers. If you google around, Newegg's warehouse RMA department sounds very shady, like breaking your mobo cpu pins and saying you did it.

newegg will almost always do the right thing in the end but they can be very difficult to deal with. they have pissed me off plenty of times but I always get my money back in the end.

I just went on newegg to see when my first purchase was! 10/12/2003.
I have mainly bought from them since, but havnt had really any returns that were bad.

The links people post in here that lead to newegg website are stopped by a dark yet shady webpage that wants me to click on the Amazon link. That is very shady to me.

It was annoying at first, but now after my experience with newegg, I click the amazon one without a 2nd thought.

I always have good support from Newegg. They even waive the restocking fee if I want a refund. It's why I always go back to shopping there, and never TigerDirect.

If you set up the RMA through the website, you can't complain if they didn't give you your full refund. The system only allows the card to be RMAed... if you call in BEFORE the RMA, and verify your RMA is correct, you'll almost always get your full refund instantly.

Last time I shipped back an unopened video card, with both game coupons, with a label they gave me for free. You just have to call/chat and ask.

Can't complain? I contacted them as soon as I saw the refund amount and they have me the most hassle I've ever had. I told them it was not pictured, they said nope it was personal reason, can't give your restocking fee back. Then they offered me 20 bucks for being a loyal customer, but still won't give my restocking fee back(43 bucks). Then they said we'll give it back to you if you buy a video card of the same value. And then they won't give me back $100 because they can't find my game card. In the end, I was like eff it, eff the game cards just send me back my card, and instead they said they'll refund everything.

Point is, in any method I use, should all have the same quality of service. Online rma, I even picked the option "item not as shown" and described the situation.

It's better to do it before hand (call and get the RMA fixed) than to have them hold your video card hostage.

Also, sometimes you do need to get creative with wording. It's not a personal reason if they sent you the wrong product.

They accused me it was personal reasons after I constantly said its the wrong thing.

I just sent them back a msi 670 power edition. It came with 2 game coupons ( Borderlands 2 and assassins creed 3), Ac3's coupon code was expired the day I got it and I already own borderlands 2, so I sent back the coupons with the card, unused.

Long story short they tried to take make me pay for those crap games that I didn't even redeem ( 1 of which was expired). I told them that just was not going to happen. I talked to a rep, they are sending me a full refund and they paid for my return shipping. I have been a customer of newegg for close to 10 years and have purchased a lot of stuff. This was first RMA with newegg.

I live in Canada, so we don't have the luxury from ordering from Amazon.com as they will not ship a majority of products over the border (99% of the computer parts will not ship into Canada from Amazon.com). Recently, Amazon.ca has added Prime and is adding a lot of products (noticed a lot of computer parts appearing lately). So I will definitely give that a go and see how the service compares to NewEgg.

My question, why do people order from NewEgg rather then Amazon? The shipping is usually a lot quicker (especially if you have Prime), the prices are usually cheaper and the customer service is a lot better (from the sounds of this thread and many others)

Is it preference or maybe because NewEgg as a bigger selection?

Newegg has better promotions and discounts. I would say out of maybe 10 great video card deals, 6 are newegg, 4 are tigerdirect and maybe 1 is amazon. Newegg and TD just offer better prices than amazon, and to save $30 on a $300 card, I would sell my soul to Newegg.

Not to mention they haven't treated me bad once. And I've done quite a few returns.

Nice! Thanks for the info my good man.. I've ordered all my parts from newegg.ca and haven't had any issues as of yet (haven't returned anything though)

Is TigerDirect the worst out of the pack?

I've had a pretty bad experience with them.. I waited over one week and noticed that my order hasn't been filled yet.. So I gave them a call and they said that my public information doesn't match my credit card and there's no record of me.. I told him I've ordered using the same card before but he refused to take the order and wanted me to fax him my driver license.. Told him to cancel the order and headed to NewEgg.. (never looked back)

I think the problem is, they used to be a growing business, and customer satisfaction was important to them. Now, it's just about advertising, living on past glorious reputation, and screw anyone else. Sure, they MIGHT grease the squeeky wheel if you complain loud enough, but between shipping used merchandise as new, and poor service, I can no longer recommend to anyone to buy from them. They used to be the 'go to' vendor; now, they're the 'go away from' vendor.

I think TD is still much worse than Newegg. Long shipping times, minimal return policies and minimal CS. With Newegg, they try not to help you unless you go to CS, but with TD, they try not to help you at all. I remember buying a video card from them that could not be returned at all. If you had a problem it had to be manufacturer RMA.

On the few occasions I've had to send something back to NewEgg, I've had to complain. The last CSR I spoke to said that they will always give UPS return labels out but only if you start a chat session with them first. In other words, the cost of the label is always yours to pay even if you mark the item as defective or "not as pictured", etc.

They will also try to bribe you with giftcards whenever you ask for a refund.

You have to be very specific with your wording in chat and keep the pressure up. I don't know what's happened to them, but their CS is lousy these days, and their overall practices are shady at best. Their promos are better than others, in most cases, but I ask myself if it's really worth the potential hassle.

If NOT Newegg for a new video card, then who?

Amazon?

Microcenter? (God I wish there was a MC in AZ)

FRY's Electronics? (F-NO. Worked there 10 years ago. NO!!!)

If you were going to drop $1000 on a 690 and wanted to protect yourself as much as possible from being screwed would you buy it directly from the EVGA web site (or ASUS or GIGAByte or MSI, etc) to avoid being screwed by Newegg on a return/RMA?

You should use Amazon commissioned links from [H]ardforum to support this fantastic site. Customer service there and all the mini-stores they have is always excellent. Seems like at Amazon customer satisfaction is the #1 priority, where at Newegg, I'm sure they hand out bonuses for people denying customers refunds.

Indeed. Every time I notice Amazon is charging me sales tax on something and I head to Newegg to see how much cheaper I can get it , I remember just how fucked up their RMA can be and how fantastic Amazon's is and don't bother with Newegg anymore.

I remember doing entire system builds on Newegg...
