So I have $900 and some change store credit on newegg and I am unsure of what to do...I was thinking about SLIing some gtx 580s but have heard that ATIs new 7000 line is coming either this month or next...I've been out of the game for awhile and just got back in so I don't know how true these release dates are...I guess what I'm asking is should I just buy 2 top end cards now OR is that 7000 line more than likely to be here within the next month?

There isint really anything out worth playing to me so I don't mind waiting for a little while but how true are these video card companies and their "target ballpark" release dates?

Unless Diablo 3 comes out I can wait but not TOO long

Also, from what I understand ati releases their top end from the start unlike nvidia, correct?

AMD will probably release their new cards in early January, around the time of CES.

Alot of rumor surrounds just what will be released first.
Last release the 6800 cards came first, followed a bit later ( I think it was a couple months) by the 6900 series, last came the 6990.

Kyle seems to hint this release will be a very similar pattern.

correct, last gen, 6800 series came first....then exactly 2 months later, in December, the 6950 and 6970 showed up....6990 came in March 2011

the previous gen before that...5850 and 5870 came out first...and they were top dog single GPU cards...dual GPU cards (5970) came out 2 or 3 months after that

Even though you just mentioned upgrading video cards, if it were me I would steel myself and wait till say next June and do the whole upgrade. Both AMD and Nvidia should have their top end cards out. SF SSDs will have another 6 months of beta testing to finally work out all the bugs. Same with the X79 mobos. IB CPU, SSD, CF/SLI, and X79 v2.0 mobo. I think you will be a very happy camper. You might even be drooling as you put this rig together. If you're willing to wait that long.
