What is your opinion on these... where do they even come from? Are these ones that were defective and sent back to ATI or nVidia and fixed and sold back to Newegg? I wanna 9800 pro but i dont know if i should get a refurbed one or a 9800se and softmod it?

I don't know where the refurbished stock comes from, but here's my story. I ordered a refurbished Sapphire 9800np from Newegg a few weeks ago and the bare card arrived in an antistatic bag in a box containing no packing material within a bigger box containing some packing material - no problem. But the hsf was hanging from its power lead and one nearby capacitor (in the bag) was knocked off the board - problem. The card actually worked after I reattached the hsf, but I wasn't thrilled with the capacitor problem and sent it back. They promptly credited the purchase price, except for the $1 shipping. I also paid $6 to ship it back. So, my experience was negative, but I know from reading posts here and elsewhere that some buyers have better luck. I hope you'll be one of the fortunate ones.

I've ordered possibly 8-9 items from newegg refub, and only one was bad (DOA) and no others went bad. It's a risk, but 99% of the time if you get something and it works right away, it doesn't go bad. I'd stress test any item you get to make sure it's good.

On a side note, refurbs dont come with any accessories. So purchasing motherboards is probably a bad idea (no io panel, cables, etc.). Hard drives, vid cards, cpu's are worth it though :) Saved me some pretty pennies.

I ordered a refurbed ti4200, it came in anti-static bag(no drivers, etc), from an address in Cali other than Newegg's. When I hooked it up it had the "matrix effect" as some people call it. Scrambled letters all over the screen and messed up colors. It would boot in to windows, etc.. But it was borked. I returned it but they charged me a restocking fee. Plus I had to pay for the shipping back. I wasnt too happy with it.

Now on new products I've never had a problem except for them sending me the wrong version of a HSF. Socket A version instead of a socket 478, they promptly sent out the correct one and credited me the full amount when the other one was returned.
