first off i was going to get a case with a powersupply, now im just getting the powersupply. http://www.hardforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1030906583

i have a current 3 year old build running on a very cheap 350watt ( blue raidmax 268 astra case) power supply

since i added a 7800gs to the system, i am unable to power both hard drives, the 7800gs and the 2 fans at once. i can however run both hard drives and the videocard without fans, and have been doing so for at least a year

the powersupply is kinda loud, i will be upgrading to a sata hdd and i would appreciate a native sata powersupply cable. i also look forward to having a powersupply that can support case fans. :D

system. . . .
asus a7n8x deluxe mobo (20 pin connector)(AGP)
barton 2500 very easily and stably overclocked to 3200, 1 gig ram, 2 hdd
7800gs AGP requiring molex connector.

so is this acceptable? according to reviews it comes with a 20+4 instead of an adapter.

i do not see anywhere in the specs anything about a pci 6 pin connector though, and i dont need one yet. anyone know of anything anything nicer for the buck?

I know the 500w model which is built on the same PCB is very good. I would epxect the 400w to be as well. The issue you may have is you have I believe a board that does not have a 4pin 12v so you may crossload that ATX12v2.0 compliant PSU pretty badly.

How soon are you buying?

i don't understand,
what are the 24pin to 20pin adapters for?

i remember i bought this board when they had the 4pin (p4? connection in all the reviews) this one was an athlon mobo with a 20 pin ATX power connector and no mention of the 4pin connection.

i guess i kinda figured the 4 pin was kinda extra stable power, and then they could merge it into the 20 pin design or have a 20+4 design depending on the mobo.

but i dont know alot about electricity so im just kinda learning based on what they have available, i see the 20-24pin adapter and then i think, it might be primarily a physical difference only. and if there is an electrical difference the psu/mobo would sort it out.

also my current powersupply does have the 4pin connection and it is not connected to anything. this motherboard also supports native sata, if that gives you an idea of its currency.

i plan on ordering it before wednesday, but asap, cause a new sata hdd will arrive tuesday.

A lot motherboards with 20 pin ATX also have the 4pin P4/AUX. Those that don't draw CPU power form the 5v rail. This can lead to a huge 5v draw and a really low 12v draw crossloading the power supply.

I'll see if I can squeeze the 500w verison of that PSU back on the load tester for a minute to see if it crossloads with a heavy 5v light 12v load.

the current power supply i have, has on the +5V rail, a 25 amp (max?)
the one i am considering purchasing has 28 amps on the +5V rail

also alot of people were saying in the reviews, instead of getting a 24-20 pin adapter, they were getting a 20pin with a 4pin slide or clip on
heres a photo, but its from the 500W version
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowI...+version,+2+SATA, PCI+Express,+500W+-+Retail
which kinda contributed to my confusion about the function of the 4 extra pins of the 24pin supplies. (i understand it now, im just perplexed by the 20-24 pin adapters now.)

eh while i was learning, i found this:
