Anyone else find it amusing that two days ago Kentsfield was going for $1,199 on NewEgg then yesterday it went up to $1,399 and now today $1,599.

I know a fiat money system has inflation, but damn!

Lol, not bashing NewEgg, just find it amusing how quickly prices can change

Um, feel free to bash Newegg, they are the only ones doing it. Its pathetic, they make so much money yet charge $400+ more for an item because they know people really want it and some people are too stupid to look around. This could be considered a good buisness practice to those looking at profits, but as far as PR its not good, not good at all.

It may not be a good PR move, but there are those who will pay it and not care. There are those who will pay it, and think it's still a good price because they're not smart enough to shop around first. Honestly, I'd be more than likely to pay the extra simply because I'm lazy and I want to get most of my stuff from one place for simplicity. They're a large enough company to do something like that and more than likely make more money than loss money from customer loss, as there will be few customers leaving.

Keep in mind too that some aspects of the puter hardware business are VERY VERY low margin. So, companies in general, not just Newegg, have to make a wider profit margin on some items to balance out the great deals they do offer. It all balances out in the end and it probably does not even concern those that do have $1600 to fork out for a CPU. And, apparently the market will support that price or Newegg would not be charging it.

What I'm surprised is how blatant their price raising is. It jumped in price by $500 in two days. That, is a little absurd, lol.

I mean, it's not a subtle $15 or $20 here or there, it's like.. $500 Wham! Suckers!

last time i checked, newegg's pricing system is extremely dynamic and based heavily on demand.

like how 3000+ amd's use to cost more than 3200+'s.
it was cause EVERYONE was getting 3000+'s and overclocking them.

You can't tell me that you would base you opinion to buy something from the egg because something that no one here is even gonna buy atm. I don't see them moving that many kents at 1k so what is the real difference charging 1500...they still aren't moving them.

It is a little less than subtle, I can agree it's absurd, but I mean the only way they'll change that is if no one shops...

Unfortunately hes right. The market for the best will always be increased according to demand. I believe we covered this before when Kentsfield came out and we basicly said "if people are willing to pay it, the price will continue to rise." In return, other products will recieve a substantial discount.

Its the price you pay for being an early adopter of new technology. Everyone thinks Nvidia is ripping people off with $600 price tags? Don't cry about it, just wait.

Skylar Swedo? Neat .
As many times I've seen this work this way (price goes up), I've also seen prices drop, A LOT. It's kind of neat. That's where being a smart shopper comes in handy... look once, look around, buy at the best price you can. Just cos NewEgg wants that much doesn't mean everyone else will, and on top of that, you don't HAVE to buy from them.

Think NewEgg would price match themselves? ;)
Save the page and send it to them? haha

Customer: Hey, yeah, I saw this price listed about 30 seconds ago. I added it to my cart, and saw the price was $5 more there. I then went into check out and saw a 2nd increase of $5. THEN I got the order confirmation and it was another $10 more. I have the page saved from when I first viewed it, may I get it at that price?

Well...

The laws of physics tell us to shop around.

If you saw an item for 1600 and you knew you would get it the next day, would you still buy it? even for 1600?

If you saw it for 1000 at some other place but did not know of their shipping speed/service, would you buy it?

I think id rather save 600 bucks and buy another 8800gtx.

Neweggs service and shipping speed takes a back seat to ~600 dollars.

I don't see how there's any problem with newegg doing this. In fact, I think they're running a great business doing so. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere, nobody's stopping you :). It's free enterprise and it's not hurting anyone. Like what was said, if you have a problem paying the prices, there are other places selling for different prices. If you aren't bothered by it, then hey, YOU AREN'T BOTHERED BY IT :)! Honestly, I'm really surprised newegg is still as good as it was years ago, after having to continually go through all the rma's that weren't necessary, or people trying to get better than rated equipment. Sure, the 15% restock on rma refund is a little harsh in some instances, but I'm willing to bet if you raised it up with customer support if you felt you validly had a reason to not have to pay it, you'd get that money back too. The level of their cs is truly one of the best I've seen in not just online but traditional retail as well. They don't have a 30 day price guarantee or anything defined out like best buy or a lot of those companies (not saying best buy is good by any means don't get me wrong :)) but when a product I bought went down $10 overnight and I hadn't even received it yet, I tried the live chat out and within 90 seconds from when I clicked "live chat" I got $10 credited back to my account. That's service!! And the fact that their traditional warranty allows for rma for 1 year for exchange?? That's absolutely unreal.

For instance, I bought this hard drive enclosure that bombed out after 3 months. I didn't even think to do the rma through newegg. Instead, I went through the company that made it and it took 3 months to turn around my enclosure!!!!! 3 months!!!! Then within 2 months, it bombed out again. This time I went through newegg and had a new enclosure within a week! Good god!!!!

Lol, yeah. My shock has more to do with how blatant they are about it then anything else.

so they are supposed to hide the fact they are in business to make money?

I like NEWEGG. Trouble is, I pieced together an order last nite, did some bookwork so I was sure that I could swing it. Got up this morning to place the order and every single item had gone up overnite! I'm having to regroup tonite!

yeah exactly. The fact that it's so open makes newegg a fun place to go to just look at this kind of stuff happen and laugh. It's not hurting me any for sure. If they had it real secretive, then that'd give me a reason to be mad.

Lol, I just find it funny that an online retailer can get away with this. I mean, imagine going into Best Buy, looking at a monitor and it says $200. You go out, come back, and the price is $300. You go back out, and you come back in and it's $250. Lol.

Or, they're ringing you up, and they person is like 'Oh, wait, sorry, we just raised the price, it's now $300 more'

I'm no where near mad at all. I find this hilarous! :D

If I ever own a buisness, I wanna try that, just to see what people do ;)

it goes both ways though....i walked into best buy and walked out with a HDTV that was originally $1800 delivered to my door for $1050 delivered

At the time I was ready to buy a QX6700 Newegg's Price was $1699. I looked around and found it at Tank Guys for $1119 (retail boxed) and order it immediately (they sold out within hours of my order). I then went back to Newegg for everything else I needed, which all together had fallen in price by about $200 compared to when I first started putting my parts list together two months ago.

I've seen slight fluctuations on Newegg before, and usually stuff goes down in price, but this was the first time I'd ever seen such a crazy jacked up price. Yeah it disappointed me, but it's not like it makes me angry or anything, simply go where the deal is better. Newegg is still at the top of my list for all my computer parts.

the biggest factor in it, other than the demand obviously, is the supply

they get notice from Intel that next time they want Kentsfield CPU's they will cost $XXXXX.XX per 1000, maybe more depending on when they re-order, so Newegg looks at order history, and projected stock limitations, then makes a decision factoring in demand and future cost to restock and adjusts prices accordingly

same thing happens with gasoline, store pays $2 per gallon for the fuel, sells it for $2.08, Hugo Chavez informs it's customers that next re-up will cost them $2.10 per gallon, so since they need to make enough money before they re-up to replenish supply, they jack the price up to $2.18 per gallon, so even though you are paying $.10 per gallon more for the same fuel that cost $.10 less to purchase, they are simply making up for the increased cost to re-supply

As said in the email newegg goes by a real time pricing system. As their stock gets lower the price gets higher, when they run really low on stock the price gets really high. As far as newegg is concerned if someone wants to pay that price great, if not then they can go somewhere else, or wait for them to get more stock which will subsequently lower the price.

It is really just basic supply and demand in action in real time.

Newegg is doing the same thing B&M retailers do, just hoping that people are too dumb to look elsewhere for a lower price. Apparently, it's working if it's inflated $500 in two days. ;)

Don't like it, ZZF has it for a much more competitive price.

I priced out a whole system on ZZF and Newegg. Newegg was actually ~$20 cheaper, and ZZF even had a $30 instant rebate thingie. What I noticed was ZZF doesn't add in TAX (you know, that ugly extra 7% added to your bill) even though I would get charged for it (Damn you CA!). So while ZZF did look like a better deal, after taxes (which newegg was added in already), newegg was cheaper.

ZZF also didn't have the PSU in stock.

IF you noone pays the high prices, they would come back down.

Newegg uses some velocity algorith. Where if things are selling too fast & they can't keep them in stock they raise the prices/profit margin. If they aren't selling or they have too much inventory, they lower the prices.
