Newegg Dilemma

I recently purchased a refurbished HIS 9800 IceQ Pro which arrived DOA. I want to return the product for a refund even though I have to pay the 15% restocking fee. However, Newegg, states that defective products may not be refunded. I don't want to go through the hassle of having to request a RMA repair, wait for the repaired product to arrive, then send it back for a refund. I just want to send this DOA card back. Any ideas?

Those are the risks you take with a refurb. I'm sure the rules are clearly shown as you enter that section of Newegg. So, you're basically SOL. Refurb video cards are usually flashed cards gone bad. I don't trust them.

That's what I'd do, I've done that a couple times myself :).
 
I bought a refurb'd ti4200 from newegg a while back and it had "The Matrix" effect to it. Random letters/symbols all over the place, all the time..... in windows, while booting, etc

Anyway, it pissed me off, that I had to pay the restocking fee even though the card was defective. So I swore off refurb'd items.

Are you sure? I got sent 2 hard drives that were refurbs, one didn't work. They rma'd both of them for a full refund, and hit me back $6 for shipping.

that's why you don't buy them, and I do. There are little to no risks if you know what you're doing, newegg will rma any defective refurb, without a restock fee (if within given timelines). On top of that, most items not covered by newegg anymore, are still covered by the manufacturer. Another common misconception is that refurbs are poor oc'ers, are unstable, or just flat out risky. My experience has been to the contrary, with the one exception being a refurbed HD, that they took back along with the functioning one for a full refund and $6 for shipping. Many refurbs are open box anyways, not actually refurbished items.

I've got refurbed twinmos SP@ 271mhz, a refurbed nf4ut that oc's as well as a new one, and a refurbed x800pro VIVO pci-e on the way. Though I only go refurb when it means saving a decent % of cash off the orginal price.
