NewEgg Customer Service

We've only seen Kyle's side of the story. I wonder what Newegg's side is. Maybe they just didn't want to pay whatever Kyle charges for advertising?

About Adblock, is it illegal to use it or just to discuss how to use it? What if you discuss it in GenMay, where everything goes? Just wondering.

I see user "Newegg Support" is still logging into [H], so perhaps he (Jose) can shed some light. I wonder if Kyle will give Newegg the GoG@mer treatment.

The mods frown on even mentions of adblock. I know I run it but I've always disabled it for most sites I visit such as here, avsforums, and other websites. I mainly use it for places with invasive ads that popup on the screen and play flash videos.

As for filtering newegg, I could see that really, really hurting their business. Just go through the "help me pick parts" threads in genmay and the HTPC forum and see how many newegg links are posted. If I were newegg I'd rethink my advertising strategy because Kyle could put a hurting on them if he were feeling spiteful.

Not that you were asking, but I plead the 5th about my use of Adblock. :p

About Newegg, yes, but I wonder what %age of their revenue comes from links in [H]. It probably comprises less than 5% compared to other and larger sites that provide links, such as Google, SlickDeals, FatWallet, etc.

5% is a big chunk of 2.1 billion....

So has there ever been a thread anywhere that tells the whole story of this? I've seen Kyle's quote that they dropped [H] cold after years of support but is there anything else? They just left? Purposefully? No mistake? Thats it?

wtf

What are they going to say that could possibly appease angry hordes of forum posters? Most likely scenario is probably just the simple one. The beancounters at the company are cutting costs in preparation for the IPO soon. The costs of advertising on this forum wasn't generating a high enough ROI for them so they stopped. If it's wasn't profitable for them, the marketing campaign would get axed. Remember when they first announced their IPO, their net margins were announced as only ~1-2%, so they would have to get a lot of sales to pay for the marketing.

They do have referral data so they can calculate approximately how much in sales was generated directly through the links here. Indirect would be more difficult.

Uhh? User error.... FF is fast and perfectly stable...You configured it wrong.

Oh, I need to configure FF to get it not to crash now.

I have tried FF quite a few times and it's no where near as fast as Opera. FF used to crash on me all of the time and yes on a fresh install of the OS on several PCs. Then I switched to Opera that never happens. Opera also uses less ram and is more secure. Firefox is beyond overrated. It's better than IE7 but that doesn't say much.

Some Firefox users are as bad as apple users.

I love newegg and will continue to use them due to them having a warehouse withing 3 hours of my residence. This means I typically get stuff with free overnight shipping.

However, I am saddened that they have withdrawn support to this site. I can't blame them though. There are a lot of Newegg haters and clowns in general that have changed what this site used to be.

I would venture to guess that newegg sees more traffic from here from links to specials and other links than their ads.

So Newegg is going public? Interesting. But I fear the worst, like what has happened to Google since they went public. :(

I posted on another forum about my fears from the Egg IPO particularly service...did that about 10 days ago. Last week, I received a mobo, cpu and mem for an HTPC rig I'm building for myself. The Gigabyte mobo flamed out on the initial startup...thank God, I followed my usual tactics and did it on a Tech Station so I could hear and see what was happening and turn off the power quickly. I called NewEgg after I calmed down...and cleared the air in my office of the burning heavy metal aroma. Within 5 minutes, I had received an email with the rma # for the 3 components as well as a prepaid UPS shipping label.
The CSR was truly excellent...courteous, efficient and knowledgeable enough to handle a potentially PITA customer...Why a PITA? Because I called with an expectation that CS had already been downgraded...I was ready to go to every forum around and announce the death of Egg CS. Oh well...I was wrong...for now.

Now lets talk about their abandonment of Kyle

I've been buying stuff from NewEgg for a long time. I've always backed them up and rarely had a problem. But I'm going on 2 weeks and they've barely even processed my latest RMA. It's sad their service has gotten so bad. But I have a very pissed off customer because of it, and all things considered, I think it might be time to find a new vendor.

I hope NewEgg sees a lot of this and does something about it.
